Well of course it's always time for an AR, but now I actually have the money

I don't want to build, unless it's just attaching the upper & lower together. I just want a quality, & reliable firearm that I can take to the range with no issues. I hear a lot of good about Daniel Defense (so that gives you an idea about what I may be willing to spend) But do I really need to spend that much for a quality AR? What brands do you reccomend that I look at?

The only purpose of this gun is target shooting at no more than a few hundred yards.

CORE-15, Windham Weaponry, Stag Arms, Colt USA, Colt Canada, LMT, Daniel Defense. Any configuration, any model. They all work.
Heads up, if you plan on shooting in the States, get a 16" or longer barrel. Also, no Norincos.
If not , then buy whatever you choose.

You can go higher in price but you may not see a huge jump in quality and improvement, like Noveske, VLTOR or Knghts Armament or mtb's favorite, Christensen Arms.
You can go lower like Norinco and Dominion Arms and everybody's favorite, NEA. Then you roll the dice.

This sums it up nicely

I've had 2. Stag arms $1000 and CC $1900. They both did the exact same thing and looked identical. The only use I have is target .shoring/plinking at the 100 yard range so either is suitable.
I e been eye balling a new Bushmaster , $1000.

i have a daniel defense ddm4v11 and i am very happy with it.

my first AR was a dpms oracle. it does the job but i havent taken it out in over a year. i may gift it to my friend when he gets his RPAL.

i have just finished building my first complete AR and i have decided that i will never purchase a complete rifle again. building it is so much better (even though it cost me nearly as much as my DD).

OP welcome to the dark side. There really are so many options for quality factory AR15 models.

I have only purchased one brand new AR and that was my MK18 from wolverine a couple years ago. I couldn't be happier with it. DD is top notch though good deals on colt USA , stag arms, Windham and core15 show up with vendors and on the EE

Building really isn't that complicated and that's the route I've gone with most of my builds. Either way the info provided in the thread so far really is solid so have your pick and again welcome!

I was in the same boat as you op. Got an NEA, and it was pretty sweet. Loud and short and obnoxious. It was economical to buy.

I now have an even sweeter CC IUR. Couldn't be happier. You get what you pay for.

Welcome to the endless world of AR's!

What the heck, I'll throw my hat in the ring....
I Love my Ruger AR-556... going for $999 right now. I think they're pretty damn good quality for what you get.
Zero issues and quite accurate....
Of course I got into AR accessories and then the money started flying out my wallet lol.
Forends, muzzle breaks, mags, red dot, ammo, stocks, slings.....

Check out some YouTube reviews and try to shoot and handle some before you decide.

Good luck and welcome to the club (soon)

A lot of us don't "build" AR's we more accurately assemble them. Buying an upper and a separate lower isn't really building an AR and there is no real risk in doing so. Building the upper by mounting your own barrel and gas system is where most problems occur, avoid this and you should be fine.
