So i tried this thread in general, was told to move it. I tried this in the sporting shotgun section and they gave some helpful options and advised trying it here too. So i pose this question to you guys...

Looking through the threads here and seeing people's favourite setups, i decided i need a SBS. Yup, i need one to complete me. But i want one that can take chokes. Must have chokes. And looking at the pics of peoples setups, i dont know which have a choke. So what are the options out there that have chokes out of the box or how can you put one on? Other than chokes, 14" long barrel is my ideal length. Mag fed, tube fed, break action, doesnt matter. All are beautiful. What have you found are the options out there?

Thanks

I wouldn't turn something down without chokes if it's the right SG for you because you can easily have it threaded.

Personally, I'd stick with the 870 platform, hunt down a 14" barrel and get it threaded for chokes. Might not be the cheapest way to go about it but it's by far the most versatile setup.

Ditto very nice shottie. Had all the rest 870P 14" mossy 590A1 14" Dlask 8.5 and would take a Fabarm 14 or pistola over all of them.

Funny, I've been doing opposite. Getting rid of everything to go back to 870's. Last one to stay so far is a 14" Fabarm Marshall Pro Forces. It's really good so having a hard time parting with it but ya never know, it might end up on the E&E soon enough. Be a tough decision though.

I don't have the 14" martial but as the action is pretty much the same as the 20" sdass I have I bet it's just as nice, I will never sell my Fabarm.

Some 12 1/2 Grizzlies came from the factory threaded - other than that, pick up a 14 inch (which is the best length IMHO) and get it threaded. Remington 14 inch barrels are out there as are Dlask 14's - the Dlask barrels are thicker.

I've never shot a 14", but trust the 14"/no chokes are "better" than the 12.5" somehow...? Given the choice, I'd probably opt for the 14" but I bought a bead-sight, tube mag, 12.5" Grizzly and I like it for what it is. If I got a 14", it would then open-up the mag tube extension question and as we all know...things can get out of hand $-wise pretty quick. lol

I'd have no hesitation getting a barrel threaded for tubes, but I'd really have a hard time making a case for doing it on a shorty. I once had a 12.5" Grizzly with the ghost ring sights and that model was threaded. Never made much of a difference if memory serves, and I wasn't using it for wing shooting anyway.

Anyhow, add-up the cost of the threading job+tubes+gun then look at what's in the EE and decide what the best value is.

Almost all my short barreled shotguns are threaded for chokes. The ones that aren't, I don't use as much.
Reason behind it is that when I go out I like to shoot a lot of rounds.
Slugs, some buckshot too sure...but most of the round count is taken up by 9,8,8.5,7.5 sized cheap birdshot.

So shooting largish sized targets within 40yds keeps the shot together longer when I have a full choke installed.

I shot a 14" rifle sight 1187P in the states years ago. I've been trying to find one in Canada ever since.

That would be a Remington LE gun (and restricted to boot) probably not a ton of them in Canada. This is the latest version, based on a Versamax

Very cool - they make an 18 inch too - would be very nice, but for some reason, they're really touchy about selling LE shotguns to the public. You could duplicate the 18 inch, with an 18.5 inch barrel and have it NR - the parts are mostly off the shelf Mesa, XS, etc. but the 14 inch barrel would be a real bugger to get.

I built a 1187 as a 18.5" 1187P. I absolutely love it! I've seen a 14" 1187P on gunbroker but I'm unsure of how to import it. I got a 14" benelli M4 so the restricted status don't matter to me. I just want a 14" so bad! That vesamax is nice too!! Damn

Many years ago handled a 14" 1187 at Tac-Ord which Casey had just parkerized.

Had a sudden urge to dash for the door !

Really cool little SG.
