So Ive laid down the cash for my first pistol/restricted - now what?

Ok so if the dealer is doing the registration for me and I receive the gun by mail, can I still take it to the range and fire it even though I don't yet have the registration papers from the RCMP? In other words, is it safe to assume that it is registered technically by the time I physically receive the handgun?

if you get checked, you can get in big trouble having a gun without having some form of registration for it. you need to have a copy of your ltatt (mine is always in my wallet with my pal), and either the beige paper ( the actual registration) or the letter saying your transfer has been initiated ( usually shows up before the registration, but not always lol) before heading to the range. it took about 6-7 weeks before my ltatt showed up at my door, from the day i mailed it off. i also never had to register a long gun, but i have bought/swapped/sold a few of the restricted classification, after doing a transfer once or twice the procedure is pretty simple. private sales usually tend to take about 2-3 times the amount of time to get transferred as compared to store purchases.
