So what are the official weights of carbine buffers???
Im getting so much different info
so far i have 3 oz in a standard buffer 4 oz in a H1 buffer and my HH buffer in the KAC 14 inch is 4.7
Is there a standard for carbine, H1,H1,H3 and 9mm or are you finding that the MFG just pick a number??
bbb

Depends what size hole they drill in the buffer and what diameter tungsten/steel weights they use.

arfcom has a chart that shows varying weights of buffers between manufacturers.

I may be wrong (someone will be sure to jump on me if I am ;) ) but IIRC the only buffers that have an 'official' weight are: rifle, carbine, H1, and I think maybe H2. I kind of recall reading that the military doesn't use H3 or 9mm so they don't have an 'official' spec?

so whos running a heavy buffer on there 10.5 or 7.5 build??
ive got a 4oz in my 10.5 right now and its much smoother, going up to a 4.7 today to see if it feels any better

The buffer was included with a new rifle.
16" carbine runs too hot on a basic 3-3.7oz car buffer for me.
So I never really considered testing it out.
LMT used to always include a heavy buffer with their 10.5 uppers.

Do you have any trouble with commercial ammo running the 4.7?
KAC is clearly geared for a steady diet of 556.

The kac does not like Hornady or mfs. But vis fine with Remington 223
But that gun I mainly run 556
It's very smooth and can do .20 split times and still hold a good grouping

Hmmm, it sucks that a high dollar gun like that is so picky about ammo. I use a standard carbine buffer on my 10.25, with an improved bolt carrier. I've only had two malfunctions with that rifle ever through many thousands of rounds. one I attribute to a muzzle brake I was testing and the other with an MFS round that the primer flash hole was not drilled out. Had the mortar the rifle on the last one to clear the stoppage.

BBB, ok, here's what you do, you're 11.5" barrel + plus a 6.5oz HSS buffer + Wolff XP spring = unstoppable. I swear this config has given me but 1 malfunction per 1000 rounds with no ammo sensitivity.

Vltor A5 system for me- A5 RE, A5 std buffer 5.30z., and rifle spring-sprinco "green", I used this system for both of my 11.5 and 14.5 middy.
My 14.5 feels like 22lr, and 11.5 is so sweet .

clobb I should say, the kac will not run well wih the 4.7 heavy buffer and light ammo
it would fine with the 3.0 oz
but yes your right it should run with any ammo, and it would if I left in the 3.0 but I see no point in beating up the gun, when I shoot 556 anyway.

That's good to here?
how many rounds down the pipe on the S&j bbl now??

I'm use a Spikes T2. Purchased from Questar.
Used it with 10.5" Noveske - 16" DD & Stag & Armalite - 18" Noveske....1000's of rounds..
No prob. We only shoot 5 rounds...or 10.Why do I use it.? I like that it make little noise. No weights banging around in your buffer.
People claiming their buffer makes their rifle better are clueless, most likely read to much AR15.com. You only shoot 5 or 10. You are not running full mags, possibly full auto. Buffer choice is negligible
Kinda like all these guys that want anti-tilt followers for their 5 rounds mags... HAHAHAHA

I disagree. Bolt speed can lead to malfunctions such as stove piping, even with 5 or 10 round mags. Its all about kinetic energy - more mass at the same kinetic energy means slower velocity. I run a colt h2 on my 11.5 but have an st-t3 I will use if the gun doesn't sell. Do the malfunctions mean anything to me? Why the hell would I want a gun the malfunctions? Ruins my range day...

Gas port diameter is a factor as well though.

I run a custom made buffer. Made of tool steel with tungsten ignots weighs 7oz. It runs exceptionally well in my 14.5 spikes mid length gas with JP flat wire buffer spring. Its even had a chance to shoot with some LEO and standard mags ;) with no hiccups.
