I just got my first pistol; a desert colored Glock 17, I love and have been bitten by the handgun bug in the worst way. I now what to get a 1911 but I am absolutely overwhelmed by the plethora of choices. I am a left handed shooter and my price range is up to $1200 CAN.

To get the conversation started, here is one I am looking at available at Frontier Arms:

Please tell me what 1911's you like and why?
 
G21SF is Slim Frame. A little less beefier in the grip for a double stack making it easier for most folks to hold onto.

It does make a nice looking gun, no doubt about it.
 
Get a Commander length Para. Shoots very accurately and is controllable, even if you pick the alloy frame. Much more comfortable on the hip than an all steel 5" 1911
 
I've got a Para P16-40 Limited and have found it to be a money pit! $$$ for a trigger job...$$$ for a new grip...$$$ for a mag well...$$$ for a new target front sight....$$$ for buffs....$$$ for reduced action spring. It never ends to get it just the way I wanted it. It does shoot okay ...but all said and done...I'd buy Tanfolio Limited instead
 
My vote for a reasonably priced 1911 goes to STI.
I've got a Trojan in .40 and I love that gun.
I've just ordered a Trojan in 9mm.
Freedom Ventures has them for $1029.
No need for a trigger job,etc.
The parts are quality and if you do want to lighten the trigger,
a little fluff and buff will do the job.
No new trigger,hammer,nada.
I like the sight picture,I like the accuracy.
I've owned Colts and Springfields.
I still own the STI .40.
I don,t see myself parting with it.
P.S. I'm a lefty too.

Almost any 1911 can be made to feel good in your hand and tunes to be extremely reliable.

On the lower price range a Norinco is a great gun once it is tuned by a competent gunsmith.

My personal favorite 1911 is my Colt Delta Elite 10mm (it really isn't mine anymore I transfered it into my son's name 2 days ago) but you listed a 45 above so here is my personal favorite and if I was into 45acp's this is the gun I would own.

The frame is very light and strong is made of Scandium and the slide is Stainless Steel.

Springfield Armory Target Match (if I can find one in Canada)

I am leaning towards the Dlask because it is available a a true left handed gun and the price seems fair.



I think the Kimbers are a little overpriced so I will scratch them off the list and I want nothing made in China so no Norinco for this Cowboy.
 
Well.........so much for the left handed Dlask. I just spoke with them on the phone, they have none is stock and are not interested in making me one any time soon, over a year wait at best according to the lady on the phone :runaway: :confused::eek::confused::(

BTW, Dlask's customer service was horrendous; they seems annoyed that I asked a couple of questions and made no effort to help me whatsoever.
 
I'd definately support Dlask Arms over any of the other companies listed if I could.

Joe is a great guy to deal with and has excellent stuff and being that you live so close to him if there is an issue with anything he is just around the corner... :cool:
 
"WOW" BB sorry to hear that I will talk to Joe about the issues you just stated the next time I stop in there.

I do know that they are overwhelmed with filling the orders for the short shotguns and do not have time to do much else for a while.

I actually would like him to convert my s/s Puma M92 454 Casull or/and my Marlin 1895GS 45-70 into a take down but if he is that busy I'll have to find someone else too do it for me.
 
I was corresponding with Josef regarding a Dlask 1911 in 10mm with a stainless frame, blued slide, bull barrel,at first he thought I wanted a blued frame and told me 60 days, he couldn't do one yet in stainless because he was out of stainless frames and they should be in sometime soon. Can't wait to get one.

Jaybird - I'll have a look at the Colts. Who sells them in Canada?

Camp Cook, I work 5 minutes from Joe's shop so next week I'll drop in and talk to him in person, maybe I will get a little further or at least a reasonable answer in regards to wait times. I have met Joe a couple of times a long ago and he seems like a good guy, nice to seem him doing well.
