So many to choose from, HELP!

Update:

I went into Dlask Arms and had a good face to face with Joe. Very nice fellow indeed. He is going to make a serious effort to make me a left handed 1911. He is having trouble finding the "blanks" I think. If he is unable to make me a dedicated left handed one he will put a slide lock and safety on the left side of a standard 1911 and I'm sure it will be more than fine; still a true left handed 1911 would be so sweet.

I am also going to have Joe pimp out my 870 express (left handed) into a sweet tactical rig. Should be sweet; how many left handed tactical shotguns have you seen?

Colt's aren't bad (flame suit time) for a $500 gun - the problem is that they start much higher than that, and then you have to put money into them to get where you would start with most other 1911's. STI, Para, S&W...well pretty much everyone will sell you a 1911 with decent sights, trigger pull and a beavertail for the cost of a basic Colt. Take a look at the picture of the "Combat Elite". You can do much better for the bucks. Incidently, Dlask 1911's are very, very good guns and are a great deal for the price.

I fully support your consideration of a Dlask and I invite you to take a peep at my own post of earlier today on this forum of my new Dlask Stainless Custom 1911 .45 (with pics).

The Dlask product is over the top in all ways - it is the tightest, most precisely made pistol I've ever handled - in a higher league and all.

By the way, I live in Ontario and there is a dealer here who sells Colt and I was in there very recently and, for kicks, examined a brand new blued Colt Gold Cup .45. I own a mint shape WWII Colt M1911A1 and have always been a Colt fan, but I have to tell you that when I handled, cycled and examined the Gold Cup (inlcuding trigger break and slide to frame fit, etc. etc.) I was sorely disappointed in many ways, especially in light of the starting price of $1450 plus taxes. To me this gun was worth barely half that, and did not live up to the expectations that its name and price tag had set. I must concur that Colt can tend to be overpriced for what it is, and they seem to count on people paying more for the name. In any event, DEFINITELY personally handle any gun you want to buy (or one just like it) ESPECIALLY if it is a pricy Colt - else you may be very disappointed.

If you're a lefty, don't settle - maybe hold out for a true LH 1911 and get it done the way YOU want it, and then just keep it forever.

GOOD LUCK!!
