So much for the reliable AK 47

I certainly wouldn't write off the AK just because of this. It is and always will be the standard by which all others are judged when it comes to reliability. I wouldn't write off any weapon series because of a malfunction with one particular gun either.

Left alone on a foreign planet with one gun - it would be an AK in my books.

That's not a russian AK. Period. May be some cheap clone loaded with sh*t and modified like no tomorrow. (guessing ;))

ps you have to know the history of the gun maintenance and ammo used (selfreloaded rounds not to spec) + other details (replaced parts etc) to make a conclusion of what actually happened. Generalizations are not made from the single accident especially something you know nothing about. Made in Russia properly maintained gun loaded with proper ammo will never blow up, even if dragged in the dirt or submerged in water.

That is Radom made AKM, US took a them free from Poland in 2008. Around 11000, as the information went they were going to scrape them. Armourers in few bases were told to prepare weapons for scraping . The order was given to Western district, their mobilization supply is about 200000 to 350000 of AK-47 and AKM rifles. If it was for scraping them they propably selected the worsest, damaged and most used weapons .

Who knew UNCEL SAM wanted them for sale HaHaHa. You get what you pay for. If it is free it means it is crap

how can you tell? the you don't get a close up and t he video quality aint so great

Look at the wood, it is a tell tell sign, Wood like this Poland very rare cases Soviet Union. The shade of wood it is Polish 100%.

Id have to agree that its a polish AK , that wood almost looks like plastic . reminds me of a video i just saw of a soldier using an AT4 rocket launcher and it blew up on his shoulder.

Can this happen if the base of a catridge fails ?

well they said the spring was still in the gun, so one could assume that it was a buggered round, it blew up and kicked off the top cover. with enough force don't see how it couldn't happen.

I never had any issues with mine - no surprise there (Chinese semis in 7.62 and 5.56) but they're really no fun to shoot, having fired a couple of VZ's I'd say we got the better of the 2 rifles in the Vz. It's much more fun hitting stuff at 300 yards than it is missing them, and the Vz is a much better handling rifle. The AK is kind of like a fat chick in comparison.

The AK has been used in every war since 47 and is still used today.

I think the gene pool needs to be cleaned.
