So much for the reliable AK 47

I'm not a big fan of the AK because it is a clumsy and crude contraption, and is known for mediocre accuracy and short effective range.

And just because.

Yeah.

It's real crap. Saiga builds the fail right into every box and Arsenal Inc imports them into the US that way by conscious design.

Seriously though. Ever owned a Russian AK?

^ Owner that gun is one lucky SOB.

That is my brother's gun in Houston, Texas. He went from being a die-hard 'you can't survive the coming zombie apocalypse without an AR' guy to understanding that there is more than one viewpoint on this planet towards how to make a reliable weapon system.

I have to admire it from here because none will EVER hit Canadian shores.

There's been many other fine AKs in times past available to us right here in Canada. Some guys on this board still trade in that niche. Me? I still lament selling my Hungarian AKM 'Blondie' back in the early 90s. Had I hung on to it I would be trying to part guys like gunplumberr from some of their collection peices.

But for $500 drinking money on a weekend out on the town in Wainwright I sold out of what soon after became prohib class.

How do you like them apples?

On the flip side, I'm not going to cry about 'only' having Swiss arms and Vz available. From a practical standpoint both are just fine for intended purposes. From a bragging rights point of departure neither are too common in the great State of Texas. I find the second part interesting because Americans are much like us in at least one important way. And that is that they seem to want exactly what they cannot get.

Contrast that with a few others that have a deep seated need to vindicate their own choices or predicaments.

Given most of us serfs cannot have AK's as a result of our betters more enlightened understanding of what is best for us, what would you guys recommend to the rest of us at this point?
