im gonna build a Ruger Charger.
why you may ask?
and im glad you did, im gonna build a Ruger Charger because i purchased one last summer and i dont like it.
i hate the barrel.
a pistol is suppose to have a 4.5 or 6" barrel not this 10 or 12" barrel that the charger comes with.
thats a rifle barrel!!!!

plus im not really liking the 'new charger' stock.
that AR pistol grip stock just dosnt get my mojo going like the old charger stock did.

so i decided im gonna start to pick away at building mine own Ruger Charger.

was chatting with my dad last night down in Calgary and he said he was gonna be ordering a stock or 2 from Boyd's in March(ish) so i told him i wanted to add a Ruger Charger stock onto his order.

so that is step 1 - Boyd Ruger Charger Stock.

i already have 2 or 3 stock ruger trigger groups laying around out in the shop but..... BUT...... im feeling spicy!!!!

im kinda thinking of getting Questar to order me in a Red Tactical Innovation CH22 receiver and red trigger assembly.
that is the rear AR style charging handle on the 10/22 receiver.

last step would be to get a Whistle Pig 6" charger barrel.
anyone know who imports from whistle pig???? Questar??????

or i could just go cheap on this build?
Dlask 8" barrel, Boyd charger stock, stock ruger trigger group and a receiver from somewhere.... Dlask maybe?

i think the pistol would be 10 times better than the current charger.

(yes i would have to register it as a pistol once put together)

anyone have any thought on this?
its not a 'right away build'
im thinking of picking away at it over the next year.
wife is a little raised eyebrow at me right now with all my purchases last couple months, so i figure if i do it this way its just 'parts' and not another new gun.

There is a charger for sale on the EE, right now, by another CGNut with a Kidd 6" barrel and 2 stocks. Personally I like the older style wood Charger stock, and that barrel is very difficult to come by in Canada.

Just a heads up, I have read quite a few negative reviews on the CH22 receiver.

As a possible cheaper (and better?) alternative I would strongly recommend a TandemKross Advantage charging handle:

I'd recommend using Prophet River to import your Whistle Pig barrel, $50 import fee + taxes on the purchase price and shipping to you, was $103 CDN extra for me to bring in a $225 USD barrel. You just buy direct from Whistle Pig, send them the paper work package and they send it to an Export licensed FFL in the States, permits are processed from there and you get the barrel in 2-3 months.

So how many Charger's are there in Canada?

before the revamp of the Charger Pistol a year ago - the old style Charger there was just over 300 in Canada.
now with the re-release of the charger and the new take down model i would hazard a guess that that number has probably doubled.

Finally, it is necessary to determine whether the Ruger 22 Charger pistol is “commonly available in Canada”. In this respect, the Tribunal finds that the CBSA’s evidence that there are 364 such pistols registered in Canada and that the pistol is available on several internet sites[36] meets the threshold of being “commonly” available in Canada.

from:

v.
PRESIDENT OF THE CANADA BORDER SERVICES AGENCY
Appeal No. AP-2013-059

link to Canadian International Trade Tribunal article.

so there were 364 in Canada in 2013 before the release of the 'New and Improved Ruger Charger and Ruger Charger Take Town!"
