my norinco homeland security blew up today

i was putting a few birdshot shells thru it and a slug or two for target practise and boom!
nothing really went flying except the bird shot
but then i cycle the pump and stuff started falling out
shell was exploded in a weird way and the rails from the pump action were bent.
what went wrong?
i know its a cheap gun (hahah norinco) but is it shell failure or gun failure?

thanks for your advice!
 
To be honest it's rather hard to tell with those pics...don't quit your day job to become a photographer! LOL! Maybe disasemble the gun and take more pics of the different assemblies (barrel, reciever, trigger group, etc.) so we can get a better look.

That is old CIL/Imperial ammo isn't it?!! That "sealed" crimp would date that stuff as 70s vintage. I've shot lots of that stuff and still have a few boxes laying around but never had a problem with it.
 
Looks to me like it was a hull seperation. The plastic jams in the forcing cone and the pressure builds and rips the locking lug out of its cavity. For all those guys that think cut shells are good idea...they should see these pics.

:agree: It looks to me like all the trouble started in the barrel... None the less OP is lucky.
 
The homeland security models have been blowing up left right and center. They all seem to have some internal failure when it does. I hope you didnt pay/trade too much for it because most seem to be ticking time bombs. Make sure you get an HP9 or DA grizzly, they are the tough ones that dont fail like this.
 
wonder when the first law suit is going to get filed, guess we will have to see a missing hand or eye before the recall.
I know these guns we sold off as "parts guns" but really? after all thats been posted on CGN why are people still shooting these guns!!!!!!
Someone please make a lamp out of these shotguns, or somthing funny like that.
Tell you what, If someone makes somthing really funny or intersting out of one of these POS ill give you the $100 cash you paid for the gun.

The DA's and HP9's are solid guns, stop harping on them just because they're not made in this continent. The Homeland Security shotguns, on the other hand, are total garbage and will all invariably explode at some point.


BBB, if I ever get some spare time I'll make you put your money where your mouth is. I have one of these heaps, and I also have a grinder, a torch, and a welder....I've got some ideas

Funny I was just about to bring up an HP9 that showed up to our clay shoot at work here... We shoot clays at camp in the summer evenings, and it's not uncommon for us to shoot a flat of shells per shooter in a night. The HP9 has been the biggest piece of crap out of any of the many guns that have showed up. Feed issues are commonplace, I shot it and it happened to me too, it's not the operator. There is nothing commendable about the gun, even the price was close to the very gun it was knocked off from; I have to ask a big "Why?".
