So I tried all my bolt guns today to check out my cheek weld on each of them (after pondering the replies to a previous thread) and found that on all of them my cheek basically kisses the stock but my head is not supported in any way other than by my neck muscles. It was a pretty easy fix with my T3 Sporter, just had to adjust two screws. My other precision rig is a T3 action in a Manners T4 stock. I'm looking for ideas on how to install a cheek piece on this stock. The stock is flat on both the bottom, top, and sides, very boxy. The stock is 1.56" wide. Below are some pictures of the stock.

I have a few ideas in mind; the first is to simply cut up foam and tape it to the stock but that's too much of a jimmy rig for my liking. The second is to get a TacPro or a Kydex cheeck riser but I am concerned that they are too round in shape and thus won't be flush to the side of the stock. I did a search in the gunsmithing section and PEIrob says that you can throw the Kydex into the oven at 300'F and it will become quite mold-able. Has anyone ever tried this? If so, can you post pics of the results? The third option that I'm considering is buying a piece of acrylic / plexiglass and heating it and then folding it into shape to make my own cheek piece. I'm not sure how easy this would be but the final product would hopefully look like the cheek pieces that MacMillan uses on some of their rifles. Has anyone tried this option with success? I would also need to source a piece of black plex-glass and find a way to heat it uniformly.

Any ideas / suggestions.

I used an Eagle Industries stock pack when I needed a little more height on my AICS...............straps on/off with velcro..........secure........and has a non-slip material where your cheek rests on it........plus it has a zippered pocket for storage and cartridge loops on the outside to hold 5 spare rounds.......

I made one for my savage using fiberglass. I wrapped the stock in saran wrap, reshaped the stock with plasticine, another layer of saran wrap and then a few layers of fiberglass. A few minutes with a palm sander and a drill and it was good to go. Mind you this is probably more involved than using a strap on cheek riser, or a kydex one. But I had fiberglass and plasticine readily available.

I'm in the mood for some arts and crafts I guess. Just ordered two 12"x12" sheets of black Kydex. Hopefully I'll have some nice results to post in a couple of weeks. I'll be trying to duplicate the cheek rest on the MacMillan rifles.

If you get a kydex one there shape doesn't matter as you mold it to the stock with a heat gun.

A correctly designed and engineered Kydex cheek rest does not have to be moulded by the user. It would fit correctly when received from the factory. I'm quite certain that no one wants to pay $50 for a cheek rest that doesn't fit and has to be corrected by the user.

As for making your own, there are kits on the market that offer a pre-cut blank that has the edges pre-finished and comes with all the hardware.

Not to start an argument with you, kydex cheek risers available cant fit every stock ever made. Yes if he had a standard stock that the cookie cutter ones would fit this would be the case, but he doesn't. Especially if he wants one to be in the same form factor as his stock profile. And don't even get me started on the $50 price, and yes I have one of each of your types of riser, the m14 and the DIY.

What I will say is that for the price of most currently available kydex cheek risers, it is not worth your money. Unless you go the DIY route, in which case the riser will fit your stock perfectly. And in that case I would recommend the TacPro DIY one, I have used it and it works great.

I just had them ship to my US address...it was reasonable that way! Shoot I should have brought a ton more and resold them!

If you're gonna order something, make it worthwhile! I bought a bunch of grimlocks (awesome), a rear 'bag/wedge', shooting mat, and some stock packs. All quality stuff.
