So I tried all my bolt guns today to check out my cheek weld on each of them (after pondering the replies to a previous thread) and found that on all of them my cheek basically kisses the stock but my head is not supported in any way other than by my neck muscles. It was a pretty easy fix with my T3 Sporter, just had to adjust two screws. My other precision rig is a T3 action in a Manners T4 stock. I'm looking for ideas on how to install a cheek piece on this stock. The stock is flat on both the bottom, top, and sides, very boxy. The stock is 1.56" wide. Below are some pictures of the stock.
I have a few ideas in mind; the first is to simply cut up foam and tape it to the stock but that's too much of a jimmy rig for my liking. The second is to get a TacPro or a Kydex cheeck riser but I am concerned that they are too round in shape and thus won't be flush to the side of the stock. I did a search in the gunsmithing section and PEIrob says that you can throw the Kydex into the oven at 300'F and it will become quite mold-able. Has anyone ever tried this? If so, can you post pics of the results? The third option that I'm considering is buying a piece of acrylic / plexiglass and heating it and then folding it into shape to make my own cheek piece. I'm not sure how easy this would be but the final product would hopefully look like the cheek pieces that MacMillan uses on some of their rifles. Has anyone tried this option with success? I would also need to source a piece of black plex-glass and find a way to heat it uniformly.
Any ideas / suggestions.
