Went out today to check my tree stand, and make sure it's all good to go for this season.

So yea, it's gone. Some gutless F*ck stole it, and all my climbing pegs... About 15-20 of them.

Not happy at all... I'd love to catch the SOB.

Yea... That's what I plan on buying I guess... One of those Ladder stands... Looks easier.

At least mine was just a cheap Gorilla stand. But yea, the point of it pisses me off.

Private or public land? Not that it matters much, people should have respect for others property.
I just won't put stuff out on crown land, best believe though if i caught someone messing with my stuff on private land they would regret doing so!

It was on crown land, unfortunately. What's hard for me to get my head around though is how they even found it. It was way down some hardly visable trail, set way back in from a clearing. My only idea is that they found remains of my salt blocks, and starting looking around.

I guess a big A+ for the chain/lock idea. In the future when funds allow I might invest in a 2nd trail cam to cover my gear if I do leave it out...

If on crown land i would check with the local mnr's office, sometimes they take stuff down when areas are being surveyed or cleared. They most likely did not take it down, but you might get lucky.

I've had 2 tree stands stolen in ONE go... Really PI$$ED me off!

Anyhow, I've resorted to putting up & taking down the tree stand EVERY TIME... I simply hide it near the tree so I don't have to lug it in & out each time.

It's a MAJOR PITA, but I have yet to have a tree stand stolen since...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. And now, I have trail cameras... You can be sure that if I ever catch a slimey thief making off with my tree stand, you'll see the pics & story here.

Yea I guess to even just take it down at night and chain it to the bottom of a tree out of sight would be better...

I had seen fresh looking atv tracks leading in there, so all day while we were out riding I was hoping to see someone going around w/ it on their bike....

So... Can anyone recommend a good stand? I found the Gorilla one kinda sketchy! Having to climb up those lil pegs in the dark and then try and move onto the stand sucked! I like the looks of the ladder stands... Seems a bit more trustworthy. Any suggestions?

Once you try a climber...you will never go back to a hang-on.

No evidence left behind...no one will ever know you were there.

Portable...20'ish pounds, infinitely adjustable-height/location.

Will NOT get stolen. :D

Put Another stand in the same place with pegs, same setup but hook a 12 volt car battery to the top peg and the stand. Ground on one positive on the other and sit back and wait, chances are the theif will return.
