So tell me about a marlin XL7

Hi all,

So ideally I'm in the market for a T3, but I saw a marlin xl 7 for sale in my local store. It's as cheap as chips for what looks like a solid gun.

Any got any input on them? Is the stock too flexible to mount a bipod?

Ideally this rifle will be for deer.
 
yeah, ideally I would go the T3 first, but if I wer on a budget for a lightweight deer rifle, I think the X7 would be my choice.

no first hand experience with the stock that I can remember, but the T3 is a real good thing, both accuracy reliability and weight.. the marlin should shoot well if hand fed, if not it will satisfactorily fit the bill for a deer hunting rifle for a few hundred bucks. pun intended

I would expect 1.5 inch groups with the pick of the factory stuff... which in my safe, is good to go.

Thanks. Had plenty of sakos and tikkas before, just saw it on the gun rack and was surprised at the value for money
 
Excellent "Economy" rifle that can hold its own with many higher priced rifles.
I've had them in .243, .270, 308, 30-06, and a 35 Whelen. All were excellent, with a better accutrigger type trigger than Savage.
The the only reason they were sold was because I always forgot how much I dislike a blind mag.
Best under $400 though, if your paying more than that, your on the wrong end of the deal.

Used at350 bucks plus tax
 
I have one in 30.06, good solid economical rifle. 1" groups repeatable at 100 yards. It's not going to win any beauty contests but it goes bang when you pull the trigger.
 
I got one in a trade and sold it. I didn't like the caliber. It appeared to be a rebranded savage. Barrel nut, acutrigger and a axis bolt head would fit in it.

the last one I bought was at bass pro for 299$ new, then my buddy wanted one the same week once he handled mine and called epps and they matched the price for him. they were in .243 and super accurate, keeper for sure.

this was a few years ago as they haven't made them in awhile.
 
we had at home and this is a great and light rifle very accurate too. but my wife prefer a wood stock and open sights for rifle so the synthetic marlin left home...
 
I bought one in 308 with a heavy barrel this past Christmas on clearance since they are no longer being made....a great shooting rifle....
