Fixed blade buck knife and leatherman on belt, often my pentax 8x42 DCF WP binos around my neck. In the numerous pockets of my jacket pants and blaze vest I usually have, Brunton windproof lighter, Garmin 60 CSx GPS, compass, emergency space blanket, length of lightweight rope, GMRS radio, Blackberry/cellphone in a ziplock, gun sock, gloves, diamond knife hone, couple of snack bars, some toilet paper in a ziplock, ID, tags, licence, registration, lens pen, LED flashlight. I usually also have a fleece jacket which I remove and stash in the back of my vest if I am on the move, but put on if I am in a stand for any length of time. I used to take a small day pack but this year bought a new Primos vest with loads of storage so have left the pack in the car for now, with an axe, extra water, saw, tarp, first aid kit etc. We are usually only 20-40 minutes walk from the vehicle anyhow.
The one thing that still amazes me is that my three hunting partners all talk about getting a GPS, as each of them have been lost in the woods and swamps at one time or other, but none of them ever seem interested in carrying a cheap $10-$20 compass. I've even offered to lend them one as I have a spare but they decline! Weird. Even with a GPS I would not be without a compass just in case.
