So.. Uhh. Flash hider WTF? Gotta love Norinco QC...

I'm not sure.. Ive looked it over.. doesn't look like anything came in contact with it. I talked to Kevin Keon (an M14 smith around these parts) and he says hes seen it happen due to the metal being poor or soft. The gun is still fairly accurate (2" groups at 100 yards), but I don't wanna shoot it and take the chance... I dont even know at what part of the last range session it started happening to be honest.
 
What Kevin Keon said is true. A bit of heating (shooting) followed by cooling will cause imperfections like this to become obvious.
 
It looks to me as though the flash hider worked loose at some point in the past, and was fired in that condition. Are you the original owner?
 
so is the bullet hitting the suppressor, try running a 5/16 (.312) helical reamer in there , to make sure nothing is struck by the bullet
