So......um.....

.450 Bushmaster uses the same casing as .223 I think, so my guess would be 4 as well.

Uh... not even CLOSE.

The .450 Bushmaster casing is hugely different:

One thing to note is that you'd probably have to modify the feed lips a bit to ensure reliable retention/feeding of .223 but it's worth a go I suppose... for, maybe, 6 rounds?

Yeah, just go with a Questar 10-rounder... Its been verified and confirmed by the RCMP and you dont have to mess around with modifying a mag, and probably turning it into a prohibited device.

I was reading an old issue of Shotgun News wherein they test an AR-15 in .458 SOCOM. In the article they state that it feeds from standard AR mags but only seven rounds fit into a 30rnd magazine due to thier size.

So what I would to see is a few token .458 SOCOM pistols imported into the country with a vast pile of seven round capacity mags that are clearly marked '.458 SOCOM Pistol'.

Legal standard-capacity mags for everyone

I don't think we would even have to play with the pistol class, if seven rounds fit into a 30rnd mag, then at least 20 rounds would fit into a five round rifle mag.

Or was this a joke?

If you could make an unmodified .458-marked 5-round mag work with 223, you could use it. See the recent CSSA article about .40/9mm mags, same thing.

As in previous cases, markings would be key to demonstrating the design and manufacturing intent of the mag.

Having said that, I'm not aware of a source for a mag like that.

I had a look into the .458 info. I think the round was specifically designed to be used in AR magazines. So their should be no issues with feeding. RRA makes an AR in 458, and they have already given us the RRA 10 round pistol mags which from what I know, were specifically stamped for the Canadian Market. So If we imported some of their rifles, they could be willing to make some ".458 caliber five round rifle" stamped magazines for us.

I think that the RCMP would think that would be a stretch of the magazine laws. A 20Rrd AR mag will take more than 5 458Socom rounds

I went through the hassle of blocking the 20rd to fit just 5 458 Socom rnds with a Sinclair single shot follower . See pic below of the yellow follower

This way, if a gendarm tried to stuff a 5.56 into it would not catch the feed lip. I works great for the Socom rounds since its so fat it catches both feed lips

This is the best I can do in the spirit of the law. Showed it to a RCMP that so happed to be at the range and he felt that that would be good enough to "convince" people that it was not a 5.56 Mag

Call me paranoid but I just don't need the hassle !

so this is just me being hopeful, but is there any way this rifle wont be classified as an ar variant? could it have different internals? I know its probs the same, but i always still have that hope!! haha

yea i know... just thought id ask... but yea if that was one of those "loophole" type dealies you could probs have a 20 rnd ar mag haha.

If there are 458 AR mags that were made (and marked) for the 458 and they come into Canada blocked at 5 where is the problem?
