So......um.....

from a NRA review of the 450 bushmaster:

The .450 Bushmaster magazines utilize a specialized follower to keep the cartridges in a single stack. Capacity is drastically reduced by the rotund cartridges. A magazine that would normally hold 20 rounds of .223 Rem. only has room for five .450 Bushmaster cartridges.

So I am guessing it would work as a 20rnd magazine, its not like the follower is prohibited but the magazine body itself right? And these would not even need to be blocked but would come right from the factory at 5rnds!

Not Quite as changing the follower will be modifying it making it a prohibited device.

How so? by that argument anyone who has ever cut or changed their follower to cure a nosedown round problem or replaced a spring would be in posession of a prohibited device. a new follower would not change capacity of the number of 450 bushmaster rounds in the magazine now would it.

No it would not, but it would modify the magazine for use with another caliber. And would need to be pinned to five. I should have been more clear, I apologize. But replacing the follower from the 450 BM to a .223 one, would be modifying the magazine for use with .223, and would need to be pinned accordingly.

The 458 might work, as I believe that RRA ships their 458 rifles with standard AR mags. So if they stamped them showing they are five round mags for use in the 458 rifles, they would be legal.

why are you guys discussing using 450 bushmaster mags. Just get 458 socom mags you don't need to do jack to them for 223/5.56 to work in them.

Didn't know you could get "458 Socom" mags . Obviously you don't need to do jack for them to work with 5.56 because THEY ARE 5.56 mags

Where the problem lies is trying to explain why you a 5 rd "Socom" mag that is essentialy a standard AR mag

Not sure how the legality would work if you just laser engraved floorplate to show 458 Socom, which is why I went through the hassle as outlined in previous post

wait...if we can get 5 round mags that are marked/engraved for a .458, but hold 20 rounds of 5.56 without modifications, they're technically legal? Thats awesome, ill take 10.

I need some straight 5/20 mags anyways for my SPR. I hate those semi-curved bushy mags.
