So What are Ithaca Trenchguns Going For?

Some guy was selling mint repro builds for $1500. Police or military riot gun prices are heavily dependent on the same factors as any other milsurp.

Mines not repro. It's 70's Vietnam production. This came into Canada in the early 80's with the rest of the stuff from Vietnam.

I was under the impression that most of the Ithaca 37s issued in Vietnam were 1950s production, when were factory Trench guns produced up to?

Seems like in the production, but I know that existed, especially for foreign sales to allies. There were also a number of 'riot' models build for the domestic market, but we're likely rerouted. Does your gun carry an arsenal marks?

That buttstock looks hinky for a military riot gun. I've no doubt that it is original, but it looks wrong for the gun with that fancy chequering. Too ornate looking - just my $.02....

There were late in the Vietnam War era some trenchgun exactly as Rebel has right here that were marketed towards the American market. Advertisement calls it "Rare 12 Ga. Jungle Gun" and on page 99 of Walters book the exact same Ithaca trenchgun with the checkered buttstock and handguard and bayonet lug.

And on page 98 there is also sales reference small numbers of "Vietnam model" riot guns to NY State police in 1963 and Birmingham New York police in 1965.

The possibilities are endless between police and military sales, then production over run as Vietnam winded down. These Jungle Guns get another brief mention as late as 1974 with no further details.

It's on page 150 of Canfield's book. I have talked to him and sent him a bunch of pictures. He verified it as real.
