So, what are you casting for your 45-70?

Skokie I have not had a chance to try them out yet and am heading south for the month of March. So it’s going to be a while before I do get at them.

I am leaning towards the Lee 405 gr mold but may pick up the 340 as well.

Yomomma are you powder coating any of these? I haven't considered PCing my 45/70 bullets. Wonder what pc is doing to the Black Powder crowd? Just think no funky lube to blast a bullet in front of BP.

Black powder needs lube to soften the fouling so the next round can expel it. Without appropriate lube it builds up and hardens until it starts abrading the bullets or filling the rifling grooves and you have a mess.
The use of lube cookies under the bullet might help make it viable but I have some doubts.

You could check the cast boolits forums and see if anyone has experience with this.

Very nice f55. What is your PC?

Have shot them yet and what is your load? Thanks

Not my shooting and not my gun, but gave some to a fellow cgn member and he had great results (using flat base .458)

I use tool blue powder

That is a very nice group f55. In fact more than nice!

Today I had some success using Lee 350 gr that we’re graciously provided to me by Yomama. PC and sized to 358. Shot very well in my Marlin behind HS6. Not my casting but the 405 Missouri cast bullets also shot very well.

Guess I will order one of each Lee 350 and 405 molds.

Lee 340 and 405 gr molds ordered today for the 45-70 and what the heck ordered a Lee 6 cavity mold to play with 223. PC has renewed my interest in casting!
