So what do you all consider your favorite utility rifle?

I live in the city so I don't just casually throw a gun in the truck to go for a drive, it's usually a planned hunting trip with a good rifle or shotgun along.

BUT, on a summer black raspberry picking for example, up around Gatehouse's back yard, I've been known to have a Winchester '94 or even an M38 Swede on the seat of the truck in case I have to warn Mr. Blackie away.

hey greenice - im curious, how is the finish holding up? how does electroless nickel compare to stainless in terms of durability and corrosion resistance?
Back in 2008 you asked me how the finish on my 870 marine was holding up. Sorry I didn’t see your question then. Well, I still have the shotgun now and it’s seen regular use and many (read: more 200 three gun matches) and it still looks new when you clean it up.
Definitely one of the most durable finishes ever. Send me your email if you want a couple photos for kicks and giggles.
Apologies for the delay getting back to you.

Better 16 years late than never! 🤣😂🤣

My '54 SKS. Sorry, but true. It handles the commercial hunting ammo (e.g. Hornady SST) just as well as the lacquer steel cased FMJ's. It always goes bang, easy to clean, and never a problem. I am proficient with iron sights, so no problem there. Runner up was my Brno single shot in 308.

Henry big boy 20" 30-30.
125gr for fun and small critters
160 or 170gr for deer/black bear
190 barnes originals at 2050ft/sec if it's for defence

I would have to say my husqvarna 1640 featherweight 30-06. But I’m also thinking my 458 win mag 🤔, with the 350gr bullets make for a pretty versatile gun, it is short with its 21” barrel, it pretty handy even is the weight isn’t light weight by today’s standard at around 9lbs ready to go, it looks real good shoot ok( I need more time behind the trigger on that thing). Today I should be receiving my mercury recoil tamer so after it’s installed it should make it more pleasant to shoot w/o the ugliness and loudness of a brake.

For me it’s a toss up between my 336 in 35 rem or the 7600 in 270.
Both have put a pile of meat in the freezer over the years.
