So what do you do when you have clip problems?

This is something I've seen so many times! I've seen this with far too many rimfires. You load up a clip and you get a lot of feeding problems even with the gun cleaned and the shells loaded properly into the clip. Sometimes the front of the bullet plows down and sticks in the clip and you have to use a nail or screwdriver to lift it to get it out. Often the bullet won't feed straight and slide into the chamber properly. It seems like the next round coming up is pushing up on the case and misaligning it. These problems are especially prevalent on my Cooey 64a semi, and as I just discovered on my Brno #5 bolt-action, and it's happening some with my son's Marlin 925 too. Some other guns give very few problems like my Ruger Mark 1 semi .22 Pistol. Tips? Ideas? Thanks. :)

Its all in the angle the follower is at. You can bend it so as to lower or raise the nose of the bullet. Now this does not take much doing, as you are just correcting a problem that has come to be at an earlier time. One other area is the lips of the clip that prevent the follower from poping out, they may have been damaged , compare with another mag to get the proper shape, same can be done in the case of the follower. :) Oh and finally the seating depth of the clip, some have a raised area on the outside that can be reshaped , filed or added material to get it at the proper depth for correct feeding. If the mag is setting to low it will be evident with the last couple rounds not feeding, weak spring can also cause this.

Why people say 10/22 are god, when you need 700$+ aftermarket parts to have a reliable/accurate gun?

For the cooey you can change the mag housing and convert it to Savage64 metal mags (40$ with a mag)...

Could be ammo related?

I don't think you need any money to make a 10/22 reliable. Mine has fed well from the stock magazine since I bought it new. It's cheap aftermarket mags that usually are the downfall of them.

It could very well be the bullet type that is giving you issues. Have you tried other types? I find that round nose usually feed the best. Things like bullet wax and powder fouling can also cause feeding problems. Especially when they are jamming in the mag.

"Magazine" not "clip" :p :D

Just wanted to indicate in the first place that my issues are with "clip" magazines as opposed to say "tubular" magazines. If I had just said "Magazine" nobody would have know what I meant except me. :)

Good point, I could really care less if people call them clips or magazines, I use both. :p

As the problem, the only magazine related problems I've had were with my 10/22 and a faulty steel lips magazine which pointed the rounds skyward, and the JW-25 mag which sometimes won't allow the bolt to close when loading a round from a full mag due to the bolt scraping/shaving the top of the next round. Trying a different mag may make all the difference, that or loading them up and leaving them to sit for awhile.

My 50 round ramline mag doesn't work. It looks like the front has to seat in higher, as the bullet is fed just below the barrel. I'm considering filing down the notch that locks in the front, to try and raise the front of the clip up to the barrel. Any thoughts?

Because we all know that bad shooting must be the rifle, and the more money you spend on a rifle the better shot you become. :p

You know something. You gotta love companies that keep some things the same!!! :D I'd previously bought a Brno #4 from the Exchange forum and it came with 3 "detatchable box clip magazine's. " :p So I was thinking why not try them in my #5 just in case. Yes!!!... they work perfectly including the 10 shot clip! THEN... I was thinking wonder if my 452 Varmint clips work since I had 2 of these also including another 10 shot. YEP, SUCCESS!!! :D I love companies like that. Just like the 10 shot clip for my Anschutz Woodchucker also worked on my CIL/Anschutz 310! Now I gotta run to the post office and pick up my Brno #3 and get even more clips. :D

Oh... and I fixed the problem with my original clip. It was full of crud that looked like a combination of powder residue, sand, and dirt. I soaked it with this miracle solution.
