So What Exactly Constitutes a Hoarder.....( A Reloading Component Whore)......???

I can live with my MENTAL DISORDER. I just bought/was gifted a brand new Win mod 70 75th anniversary 30-06 'cause it was pretty and it makes me feel good to see it in my vault. Will I ever use it? Probably not, I will shoot it and work up a good load for it and then load 2-500 rounds for it but I'll likely never use it for hunting..............so do I have a mental disorder? Probably, but I'll just have to learn to live with it...........the medication hasn't worked yet !! The '06 is just the latest in a long line of the same syndrome........there's the Roberts, the 50 BMG, 4 X 375 H&H, the Whelen...................I've got it bad !!! I like to call them investments that way I don't have to admit to others that I'm mentally deranged, but I know there are others out there who are in the same boat as me. Don't pity us please, we'll get through it somehow!!

ammo whore Eh!!

Could never tell the difference between a whore and a slut....HUMMMM.....I guess it depends how purty yer mouth is for a pound of powder!!

this is from the dictionary "Hoarding is a general term for a behavior that leads people or animals to accumulate food or other items during periods of scarcity".

Foresight is when you buy stuff that you need before you actually need it because you will use it. It's common sense and planning.

Hoarding is when you buy more stuff than you can use or stuff you won't use because having it makes you feel good. It's a mental disorder.

Whining about supply shortages is what people who lack foresight do; It's a mental disorder.

That's not a mental disorder, that's just mildly eccentric.
If you talk to them and they answer back to you then it might be a mental disorder.

I think to be a true hoarder you need an associated recognized, diagnosed mental condition. Sheer volume isn't enough. You need to truly obsess over the thing you are hoarding, without ever letting an opportunity to acquire more pass you buy.

Kinda like the difference between being an alcoholic and just drinking a ton of booze. They may not be connected.

I hope this information helps you in your quest to become a certified hoarder.

30,000 brass ,700 hundred pounds of lead,15,000 projectiles,39 pounds of powder, and 25,000 primers not to mention loaded rounds.Maybe I could be getting close? Nope , Short 5,000 primers a few molds and a whole bunch of time.

sounds like we are pretty much on par, though you take the cake with all that brass.

how many types of powder do you have?

... I have 2 40mm cans filled to the top with 9mm brass.. 1 filled with 223 brass and one filled with 308 (all Norma match .... Nfs) probably ~a 50 cal can of 45 colt, 243 , 40sw and 38sp ... And some coffe cans full of 32 auto 38 s&w 7mm (don't even own one) ... Brass is kinda my thing but I do have a stash of bullets and probably 10k primers ... Maybe 20lbs of powder

Isn't a hoarder someone who piles up stuff to the point where eventually you have to navigate a narrow path through their home between stacks of junk? That wouldn't apply to any of us!

i think the floors would collapse before that happened! And yet i still want have that much stuff lol.

In my opinion there is a difference between "hoarding" and good planning. I stocked up a little this past winter on things that I thought I might use in the next year or so. 2lbs each of my most used powders-5744, H4198, 4064, 2400, and 748. Couple thousand each of my most used primers. Although I don't shoot a lot of jacketed rifle bullets I did pick up a few boxes of types I do use and a good supply of Gas Checks. I have a good supply of brass and a significant stash of WW and tin. I haven't shot nearly as much this summer as I had planned BUT none of this stuff is going to go bad (or down in price??)

One of the first things the military used to teach on BOQ (Basic Officer Qualification) Course for CIC Officers was "Fail to Plan- Plan to Fail". Good advice and I try to use it in my personal life.

No that wouldn't apply to anyone here............................now grab your hard-hat, head-lamp and some timbers and make yourself useful, there's been a report of a cave-in in aisle three.

I don't think I'm a hoarder, although I do have a fair bit of stuff. Recently, picked up quite a lot of old-time powders from an estate. That's okay: I have a lot of old-time rifles and such. I also buy up small lots of oddball powders when they are cheap enough. My loading books go back to 1959, so I do have data.

My aim is to have a .30-cal box filled for everything I use a lot, a full crate for .303, and a Player's tub of the ones I don't use so much. A .30-cal box will hold about 350 rounds of '06 or 8x57 or 6.5x55 or 7x57 if you pack them carefully, a crate of .303 is 1248 rounds and a Player's tub will handle about 70 rounds of 8mm Lebel or 8x56R, maybe 80 of 6.5 Carcano or Arisaka, 60 for the Kropatscheks or the BP Mausers. That's all I need, so it's all I keep on hand and, believe me, I am nowhere nearly up to that standard yet on most types. The DOWNside is that I have 800 hot-loaded .45ACP for the Reising..... and it can no longer be shot. It WAS my intermediate-range competition rifle. Thank you, Ottawa!

With the endless fun you can have with the Harris load, that means I need some more .30-cal boxes and another 8 moulds. And more brass, of course, and another half-ton of wheelweights..... before the hard-lead ones fall out of use completely.

I have over 25 sets of dies and use almost all of them from time to time. Problem right now is that I need another 10 sets. There have been a LOT of military cartridges since 1866!

But I don't think I hoard: only works out to about 50 rounds per rifle.

The guy with the .308 that he never shoots....... and 15,000 rounds of "tactical" ammo: HE's the HOARDER.

Either that or he knows something the rest of us do not.

I always lived by one rule, better have to much, than missing one, but with age, i tend to forget some stuff, this week i found an 8 pounds of H-4895 and 3 brand new scopes, i had completly forgotten in one wardrobe and there many more place in the house i did not went for the last 2 years... JP.

I am going to show my wife some of the inventory listed in this thread. She'll realize my stock is pretty modest: 9 handguns, 12 rifles, around 2500 loaded cartidges with components to load maybe another 2000...

So that's why this thread was started! Good thinking.
