A friend and fellow gunnut, who will remain nameless (you know who you are), bought one as his first gun. Short on money and time to find a good used one before hunting season rolled around, he ordered a 710, thinking better a cheap new gun then a possibly crappy used gun. First thing we did was looked at bedding it; nope, the reciever is as round as can be and has no lugs, etc. to hold onto it. The bolt has a plastic liner that it travels in, a little silicone lube helps a lot. I worked up some reloads for him using 150grn Hornady SST's; groups weren't great until the second powder choice, when suddenly every shot was going in the same hole! Gave buddy back his rifle and a box of reloads and went to the range to let him practice a bit.
First 10 shots or so are all over the place! "What the hell, it was shooting good a few days ago. Let me try." Two shots in the same hole. So I tell buddy that it is officially him. As he sets up to shoot again I ask if he can feel the trigger move, then stop, then break for the shot?
"No, I don't think so."
I tell him to squeeze the trigger slow as slow can be, and he says that now he can feel the trigger creep. Bastard goes on to shoot the next ten rounds into a dime!
After that, it didn't matter if the gun was hot, cold, clean, dirty, every shot followed the last if the shooter did his part. We later tried to load some 165's for it with mixed results, and later some 180 Interbonds, which we eventually managed to pull in under an inch.
But those 150's..... I wish I could get some of my much more expensive guns to shoot that consistently. But please understand, it is still a POS.
Cheers

In my defence it was 6 years ago before I had CGN to turn too. It did love those 150s though eh........
