So Whats Everyone Lugging for Rifles This Season?

This year I'm bringing my Winchester 88 in .308 with 180 gr. Federals and my Remington 7600 in .35 whelen with 225 gr. A little (ok, alot) overkill for whitetails but I've been dying to use it.

Wow. I'm surprised how many .308's are going out. So far 12 out of 42 people are taking out at least one. And here I thought everyone was hot for their .300's.

hunting tags:
moose >calf
deer tags (2)
black bear
wolf
small game > always take a grouse or two for supper. (shotgun) And shoot any fox I see on my property> Hobby Chicken Farmer... 22MAG or 22Hornet

I'm lugging the same 2008 Winchester m70 in .270 Win that I've lugged for the past two years. I'd love a nice .308, but the cash just doesn't exist right now.

I'd also like a Ruger #1 in .303 British, but again with the poverty...

I have big plans for next year, though.

Birds: Browning Silver 12ga. with Remington 870 as backup.

Big game: Haven't gotten myself invited to a deer camp yet. Humming and hawwing about sorting one for myself. If it gets off the ground, then the same as always, Dad's Model 70 in .30-06. Funny, I have a safe full of nice new tack-driving monsters and always reach for that old '06 first.

No plans for anything more than some geese and a deer.

A Rem. 700 Mountain in 257 Roberts / Leupold VX-II in 2-7 in QR mounts for deer.
For grouse & woodcock, an older Union Armera BLE (Grulla) 12 ga. SxS with light trap loads of 8's... the odd pheasant shoot with Super-X 6's and maybe a few over the decoy duck hunts as well with Kent Impacts.

Moose/Bear rifle

375 Ruger Alaskan in a McMillan pushin' 250gr TTSX, wearing a VX-R 3-9 CDS or
35 Whelen Ruger Hawkeye SS in a McMillan, pushin 225gr TSX, wearing a VXIII 2.5-8

Deer/Bear with Hounds rifle:cool:

Remington 750 Woodsmaster Carbine 35 Whelen pushin' 250gr Hornady RN with VXII 1-4 scope.

I might carry my back-up gun once or twice which is a 7mm Mag 700 BDL SS in a McMillan pushin' 140gr TSX with a 3200 3-9.

I will be using 1 this year rifle for all my hunting this season.
Winchester model 70 EW .30.06 spfld
Vx3 3.5-10x40 in Dual dovetails

And..

Rem 870 12 ga wingmaster for waterfowl/upland

My old dependable scoped Savage 99F in .243 (better remember to add another notch). Plus my Model 1895 in .303 with irons.

Benelli Super Nova for ducks and geese. Franchi O/U for grouse.

I'm going to break out the Pre64 Model 70 in 300 H&H for everything. Might limber up the 257 Weatherby as well and break the cardinal rule..."Never shoot the donor!"

The Ruger 308win and the big brother Schultz in 308 Norma Mag.
If Junior goes on a moose hunt, I'll let her take the two 308wins, one for back up and I'll probably dust off my Brno 21H in 8X57 for my back up rifle on my Bullwinkle hunt. Just love the double set on this old gal.

Deer:
M1 garand (30-06, of course)
K31 (7.5x55)
M38 Swede Mauser (6.5x55)
Parker Hale Supreme No.4 (sporterized No.4 Mk.1 Enfield, .303 naturally)
BSA CF-2 (6.5x55)

Elk:
Tang safety Ruger M77 (.338 Win Mag)

Most likely the trusty old Savage 111 30-06 will be my hunting partner for deer, moose, and possibly a bear.

The Norc M-14 dressed in it's tacticool Troy stock will probably make an appearance, but that may be limited due to it's weight.

And if the situation calls for a brush gun to do some close in work, nothing beats the Win 94 in 30-30 with a good set of Williams peeps.
