So - who else has a non-refurb Russkie?

How do you tell if a rifle is unissued or not? Do they mark rifles when they are issued?

once your rifle pass the non-refurb test then you need to look for signs that your SKS have not been fired. there are no "issued" stamp.

basicly what you are looking for signs of wear.

-start with the bolt face. is it clean and shinny? no ring .
-wear on extractor .
-wear on top and under the bolt .
-any mark left by the extension rod on front of carrier?
-wear on the tracks.
-marks on feedramp, chamber and bore.
-on the trigger group, hammer, sear disconnect.
-look inside gas tube.
-tail end of gas rod.

you are looking for worn area where bluing suppose to be, like on butt plate. im sure i missed a few more but you get the idea.

bear in mind your rifle has been test fired so you are looking for signs it been fired more than 5 times.

Mine's Tula '55 nonrefurb, unissued... and from what I can tell, it hasn't been fired except for the test rounds. Only downside is, it has some dings on the stock, but it's not too bad I guess. Golden Bayo as well. I got it from Epps, and apparently it was the last one they had when I bought it... so I probably missed out on the really really good unissued rifles.

if you bot yours from epps and if they said its unissued then i'll bet it is unissued, they know what to look for and besides they only had 60 to sort.

I got a 1953 Tula non-refurb from Frontier. All matching serials, non forced, very few signs of wear except for dings on the stock. Checked for all the earmarks of refurb, didn't find any. It may even be unissued, I couldn't tell whether it had been fired or not, but there's not a lot of wear around the bolt, etc. ####ing sweet!

I also got a Tula 1953 from frontier. It is all matching, no refurb marks, No signs of firing but it must have been test fired. You could not find a better one.

To be 100% I need to know what teh marking with the M inside it is and what the stamps are by the stock lug. They are not on the stock of my refurb and I have been told they are inspectors marks that would only be on an original unaltered stock. there is also a 10 in a crircle on the butt on the cocking handle side. Also has the gold bayo

there are several marks that I am not sure what they are
first is beside the serial number it looks to be a M in a triangle, the wood also has several stamps under there

Mine looks exactly the same, same markings you couldn't identify and probably hasn't been fired I am thinking now.

I am thinking this piece is unissued, but don't have the expertise in SKS's to say for sure.

If I am reading Curtton's sticky correctly, she's a '56 Tula complete with laminate stock.

Range test: no sight adjustment necessary and no stopages.

yours is the best presentation i have seen since the arrival of SKS45 , lots of close up of individual parts on neautral background (carpet), the only improvement i could ask for is that it should be on photobucket IMG forum board, easier to view.

yes, i will agree, from i could see you did have a unfired/unissued but do you have an original laminated stock ? we need to see the markings around the front crossbolt , left side. im keeping my fingers cross.

I added pictures to my original post of the left and right stock (at the forward crossbolt), hope they show well enough.

For now I am going to decline respectfully from naming the gunshop where it came from, but will say it is an IZH import.

No problem. I was just wondering if it was one of the laminates that was listed on their website as being sold.

It has the right stamps around the front recoil lug,and on the right side of the stock. Looks all original to me. I'd say it was probably an un-issued when you picked it up. Very Good Score there Sir. Very Nice!

ENFIELDER

yours looks the same as mine, same stamps by the cross bolt. Nice to have gotten lucky and got an unissued. I will not be shooting mine. Have a refurb for that...

second myth busted

the myth is that there is no such thing as an original laminated on a non-refurb russian SKS , they thought all laminated was installed during refubishing.

im satisfied the markings around the front crossbolt proves it was originally installed on your SKS and not during refurb.

thanks for the pics.

Here's mine.

The monkeys that pinned the mag left a very bad weld that prevented the magazine follower from fully rising. I had to file the sides of the weld down and cold blue before the bolt hold open would function.
