i would like to buy another shotgun and i was looking at the benelli website and they have quite a few models. im not too sure what the main differences are between some of them.

i do want non restricted and semi auto though.
i would like to use it for hunting (especially waterfowl one day) but it would be nice to be able to use it for trap and skeet as well. i guess something versatile would be ideal.

can anyone better explain the differences or perhaps recommend which would be best to go with?

the models that i was considering are:

Benelli Performance Shop SuperSport
Benelli Performance Shop Cordoba
Benelli Performance Shop Super Black Eagle II
Super Vinci or Vinci
Super Black Eagle II

id love to get the m4 but i guess the barrels on them are too short?

I'm only familiar with the SBEII as both my hunting partners have them. They both are nice guns and function with 3.5" mags and 23/4" Wally World specials. I have shot them and they are a very good all round gun IMHO.

Whichever one comes up best for you, they have stepped ribs which you may love or hate. They do have shims that you can adjust to fit you better so fitting shouldnt be a huge deal. Determine what you need in the gun first; 3.5" capability? Is weight an issue? Camo/Synthetic/Wood?

Since you said you wanted a sporting gun that will be a good duck hunter, I would personally go with the Super Black Eagle II in black synthetic or camo. Not only due to the 3.5 inch chamber (which is not needed for ducks), but it just has a good weight to it, and a nice sleek forend as opposed to the "too light" supersport and the vinci.

Plus 1 for the SBE II. However as stated countless times before in other threads...... the one that fits you the best. As for reliabilty I can only offer my 2 cents worth for the SBE II, I 've had one for years and its never let me down while shooting waterfowl or skeet.

I own an Ultralight, M2 Camo and a Sport II. I love the way they shoot, fit and the maintenance on them is negligible. I have never seen a Performance Shop in Canada, and would not recommend one based on the fact that you can have a gunsmith do most of what has been done to these models for much less than what Benelli is charging. If you are not currently shooting 3.5" loads for waterfowl get a 3" version like a regular SuperSport, Cordoba or an M2, as they will function better with lighter target loads. Performance shop versions are not worth it, take a look at the regular models as they are in stock at most retailers. I am a big Benelli fan but they are overpriced as are most mass produced guns nowadays. Shop around for a deal, they can be had but you have to look regularly. This winter I picked up a brand new 12ga M2 in Realtree Camo for $1199, that was a sweet deal!

Good luck, you can't go wrong!

Super Black eagle II and M4 for its awesomeness. I have had the SBEII for a couple of years and it shoots great(even though I am a terrible shot) and to me it feels super light. I just got my M4 last week and I think I am in love.

thanks for the information but what are the differences between those models listed above?
would the ones that benelli recommends (performance shop supersport, for trap/competition/clay/skeet shooting still be good to use for waterfowl or upland birds and vice versa? or is it one of those things that would require different shotguns for those different applications?

I've owned all of the above listed in their standard form. The fine tuning that you get in the performance shop is what it is, the gun being tuned and the forcing cones lengthened. The cordoba is a great choice. I dropped my first goose and shot my first 100 straight in skeet with a cordoba (I now have 3 of them). If you want the flash, go with the super sport. If you like the ergonomics of the Vinci, go with the vinci, if you plan on shooting super mags, well go with the the SBE2 or the super vinci. If your pockets are deep and you want the word "preformance" then get one of those! They are all for different purposes. If you want an all round benelli, the cordoba or a vinci are good picks.

If you exclude the Vinci and the M4, the operating systems on all Benellis are identical with the exception being 3" or 3.5" capability. Aside from that your choices are limited based on look, feel and fit. I like wood versions with a raised rib, the M2 was a great deal otherwise I never would have purchased one. Cheers,

Patrick

thanks for the info. that really helped me clarify a few things.
now ill just have to go to the shop and handle them myself.
im leaning toward the vinci cordoba or vinci supersport now (or the non vinci version of those), too bad they dont have a performance shop version of those vinci models.
the performance shop supersport looks the best to me though so that could also be a choice.

@brianlewis21: do you have the cordoba and the vinci cordoba? if so how do they compare with each other? im wondering if that inline inertia driven system is worth going for. seems to have good reviews though.

I shoot the Cordoba and love it. I put on a larger bolt release button, and extended combat bolt handle, and this shotgun is just as at home on the skeet and sporting clays ranges as well as the duck fields, I think it basicaly the same as the Super Sport, but all in matt and black, for hunting. Love it..great mount and fit...shoots as fast as you can pull the trigger. Just for fun, check out the performance shop Cordoba...I did pretty much the same thing at home, except for the trigger job, and my trigger is fine..great shooting all round SG.

I have a SBE II and a Vinci (reguar 3").

The SBE II has way more +'s for me and is my pick.
-feels beter (for me)
-mag extension , and float a shell = higher capacity
-have extra barrel
-easier to clean and dissasemble (if cleaning the bolt).

Both are great functioning guns.
