SO who ordered a Dominion Arms 870 Grizzly

Yes, most all of the 2007 orders have been shipped. If you are in the East it will take longer due to distance. Most of the guys posting are BC/AB.

thats with a beater 870 wood stock/forend installed, i just prefer the look/feel of wood stocks. factory Remington parts seem to fit no problem. the forend was too tight, however - leading me to believe that the Grizzly forend tube is a touch larger in diameter than the Remington. DO NOT FORCE A WOOD FOREND ON!!! i smoothed/relieved the inside of my 870P forend by a hair's width by wrapping a broom handle with a piece of 120 grit sandpaper and giving it a few spins inside the forend, until the wood forend slid onto the forend tube with some resistance but nothing that required thumping. if you force the wood forend on an oversized tube it might split down the entire length.
after sanding off a hair from the inside, it fit perfectly - and feels totally solid and immobile.

i had a chance to examine my friend's 870 Express and IMO the production quality of these Grizzlies is at least as good or better. little touches like the hi-vis follower are a nice suprise. its plastic, but i actually prefer plastic to a metal follower because ive actually had one (albeit pitifully neglected) Mossberg with a follower that rusted solid.

the action was a bit rough when i first took it out of the box but is smoothing out now after a couple boxes of Cheap-O™ Wal-Mart shells and some dry-pumping of the action. the all steel (aluminum) triggerguard is a nice surprise as well.

i just love the handling of the thing -- all in all this will make a great camp/zombie gun :)

Great looking rig...

3" shells with the pistol grip are "painful". Once you have shot five, and then a box of 2 3/4"... its time to put it away. I don't have much strength left in my hand, sort of went overboard this afternoon. But, boy was it ever FUN!!!!!!

The 3" 00 shells do produce a very pretty fireball. Muzzle filp is not too bad. But recoil whacks your wrist bone and travels to your elbow.

Cylinder choke, so pattern is pretty wide. Thinking #4 or #2 for zombie defence. A slug would go thru the wall and penetrate into a neighbors house, so gotta be careful on defence loads.

hurt a LOT more on the other end!:D

Well, you gotta try taping up your strong side wrist next time, like a boxer tapes his hands before he puts on his gloves. Has worked for me. ;)

The 8.5 incher should look pretty cool with wood too, thats something id like to see! The forened would have to trimed a bit, but it wouldnt be that difficult to do i dont think.

Mine arrived today! 4 days ahead of schedule, i.e. my birthday...THANKS CanAm!!!

As for first impressions, the gun is worth every penny of the 289 they list for. Here is my take on it, having read most of the comments others have made...

--> It's built solid.
--> I like the finish.
--> No "Made in China" stamp.
--> No warnings on the barrel, like "read the owners manual..."
--> It's a little heavier than what I was expecting.
--> The bead on my shotgun is seated properly.
--> I really like the shape of the foregrip/pump
--> Initially the action was a little stiff, but after some "house clearing" exercises it is good to go.
--> I like the sling loop under the mag cap.
--> The gun points VERY VERY fast with such a short barrel.
--> MY WIFE LIKES IT, she calls it a "mini-me gun" and says it looks like it's missing something, and I quote... "Ahh, like the other half of the barrel"!!! Bwahahaha!!!!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. My advice is get one while CanAm still has some!

Anyone change over to ghost-ring sights ?

Pics? :)

Edited to add: I just did...you all make a good argument. Then again I didn't really need much prompting.

Hey Nester, how do you change over to ghost ring sights? NEWBIE here with tactical shotgun anything...

Cheers
Jay

On these I don't really know :confused:

Either add the new front sight over the bead or twist/file it down and add your new front sight. Should be pretty easy .........for a gunsmith :D

I do know that mine will be getting new sights, not to keen on the bead. What kind? no idea

Anyone know how to change over and perhaps what style/manufacturer to put on ?
