So why DA Grizzly?

Gonna be a noob question. Been looking a picking up a basic shotgun (not a 8.5) and the usual suspects are the options. I'm just wondering why buy a DA Grizzly when the price is only 50 bucks cheaper then a remington basic 870?

I know the Grizzly is shorter and some have ghost ring sights, is that it? what am I missing? I must say the 12.5 barrel seems to be the perfect size for a "tacticool" shotgun....is that the reason?
 
For me my reasoning was these factors.

I can manipulate the short shotgun while hiking very easily, short barrel doesn't catch on deep brush much.

Second major reason, I sleep in my vehicle when I go off road, if in dire emergency I can aim and fire my shotgun from within the cab of my vehicle if a bear/ect is attacking, try doing that with a 28" field barrel or even an 18.5 easily.
 
The DA shotgun is arguably better made than the 870 Express and does not have a plastic trigger guard like the Remington Express.
 
My Dominion Arms Grizzly is my bear gun. No choke, just a bead, 12.5 inch barrel, just like I got it from CanadaAmmo when they first started bringing them in.

Zero issues with it!!! It simply works! A short shotgun is the perfect bear gun for defense.

The Griz is a KISS shotgun that's box magazine fed.

Sure, the box only holds 5 rounds, but try loading a tube-fed shotgun in a real hurry when you need it.

The price is also a huge factor, because for the price of a Remington 870 Express, you get a reliable shotgun that doesn't have plastic except for the forend and pistol grip, plus you can add an extra magazine.

Don't forget about the folding stock either.

Price out the maverick88 if you're looking for an economical shotgun... many options, good quality and cheaper than the DA Grizzly (Maverick88 delivered to the door $258). It is made in the USA by Mossberg and is exchangeable with all Mossberg 500 barrels, chokes, and accessories... I will be also buying a grizzly, just for sh*ts and giggles when retailers get their heads out their asses, and drop the price. The DA Grizzly is an excellent shotgun, but the $300 to $399 price tag before shipping and taxes is WAY TOO MUCH when theres shotguns like the Maverick88 out there....
 
I've owned both and compared them directly in the bush.

Maverick 88 is freaking awesome shotgun and unlike the Grizzly, it weighs next to NOTHING, very good shotgun to pack around all day, an dirt cheap.
 
Like others have said here; better gun.

I have a plain-jane 870 express, and my Grizz 12" makes it look cheap. Plastic trigger group, and the finish is MUCH better (is it park vs blueing?) on the Grizz than the budget 870 job, and will last much longer.

The 870 is an amazing platform, but if you're buying a Remmy, buy a nice older Wingmaster or one of the higher-end new ones. If you're cheap, buy the DA from CanAm. Can't go wrong there.

Buy American and never look back, the North American firearms industry needs the support, puts out better products, and you won't be throwing your money like everyone else in the walmart crowd to a communist country where the citizens can't even own the guns they make.

Canadian firearms owners are sure idealists and politically conscious when it comes to rules and paper. Wave Chinese crap in front of them for the price of a family boston pizza dinner cheaper than American/Canadian and they're all over like a fat kid on a smarty. You asked a good question, and the good answer is buy American. Down the road you can add a Dlask 12.5" barrel if you want; if 300 bucks is too much for an accessory for a guy he has have bigger problems than picking which gun to buy.

Frankly, people should be ashamed to be shooting Chinese knock offs. The disturbing part is few give a sh1t anymore about where what they buy comes from; don't be part of that moral slide. Consider going for a Maverick/Mossberg, no shorter barrels but fantastic guns. Flame suit on, fire away folks.
 
"Ardent".... You certainly made some pretty good points. The way I think about it, is like this... I prefer to buy a firearm from a company (no matter the nationality) as long as they have a North American headquarters... My reasoning for this is simple... I buy, they get my money, use some of my money to lobby gov't on behalf of gun owners, I smile. I'm all about a good deal, but "Ardent" is correct when he says the North American firearms industry can use all the help they can get to fight the good fight.. :)
 
Indeed, I might add anyone who thinks boatloads of scary looking Chinese junk helps our cause is sorely mistaken. At least Canadian and American manufacturers lobby to keep their own market open, and it's harder to legislate against something when it costs homegrown jobs and tax revenue (Savage Canada, Dlask, NEA, and then all our US friends). Excuses justifying Chinese knockoffs will always be that, excuses. It's a very sad moral state of walmart living and I wish more came from backgrounds like my family, farming, to understand how important domestic and regional product support are to an industry.

Principles is what it is, and we're losing them fast giving our money to communist China.

While I agree with you, I think you'd be surprised if you catalogued every item you own and where it's made, or where the vast majority of a components are made that make up something. None the less "Ardent" you're right on so many points. I will be purchasing a DA Grizzly, (if the price ever gets real)... but that will be in addition to my regular purchases; "my sh*ts and giggles gun" is how i will be describing it. The purchase of the DA Grizzly will not be one that has substituted a firearm purchase of a North American rooted company.

For the price and what you get it can't be beat. It's a rock solid gun that's built great and goes bang every time.

Indeed, I am quite familiar with the global market place and where the computer and keyboard I type this on are manufactured, did my degree in Geography and Political Science. It's all about supporting our strengths where ever we can. We don't make many computers or cell phones in North America; we do make a lot of very good guns.

My watch is German, with a Swiss movement, a mechanical Tutima. My produce is Canadian, when that's not available, American at the furthest and if I can't find what I'm after because of seasons without looking to Mexican and further produce, I don't need it or buy it. My tools are Canadian and American made, my guns are American, Canadian, German, English, Italian and Japanese (a democracy as well, and ally). It's just about choices, and we're not lacking in them with firearms. The ones giggling about your sh1ts and giggles gun are actually the Chinese unfortunately. There's no shortage of excellent, affordable "sh1ts and giggles" from American and even Canadian makers. :) Hope you choose one, I'm embarrassed where our community is going. We're all progun until we can save a few bucks.
