So, why no chatter about Russellmania?

Couldnt make it this year...wish i could have. Had a great match at GRGC, allot of guys went to Ottawa after the L2.

Well I had an amazing time and would like to thank all the volunteers for putting on a great match. This was my qualifier and I was happy to make it through without DQ'ing.

The stages were amazing and were alot of fun. Despite the weather I enjoyed myself thoroughly and best of all I did not finish last.

Since this was my qualifier I really took my time and walked through the stages instead of running and according to Bartledan I shot like a girl, as I didn't drop my mags, but instead tucked them in my cargo pant pockets.

Girl.

I'm telling you, get a race holster. Call club de tir montreal, and get Frank to send you a Speedsec 5 CW for HK.

Best holster, and it's the cheapest.

A lot of people will tell you to get a ghost, but I disagree with them. The locking mechanism is brutally 3rd rate.

Thanks for the advice but for now I am quite happy with my Laroche Leather comp holster, as I do not really like the race holsters. Now that my qualifier is completed, we will see how much of a girl I shoot like next time.

I didn't shoot, but I went to help on Saturday...I metsome cool people, Pops, Fremen etc...
I was the really dry one on the rifle range...And I STILL don't want to hear any "Brokeback" comments...:D

Hello All, I am back and ready for the Russellmania report:

First: I would like to thank Steve and everyone who helped set up this match. The organizers were very busy throughout the week prior setting up everything in the rain. They did an amazing job, before and during the match.
Congratulations Guys and Gals :)

Second: I would like to congratulate the guys who completed their first match qualifier, some their first outdoor match and all who won their respective divisions. Special mention and Congratulations goes to BartleDan who shed his sandbags and had a great match... now Omen has a "Cliffy" up here as well.

Stages: There were 7 stages in total + the Chrono stage. The round count was 250 rounds... the shortest stage was 16 rounds... no short speed stages. All the stages were extremly well laid out. They were all a lot of fun to shoot.

Props: There was a nice selection of steel poppers, plates, and moving targets in the match. My only dislike were the disappearing targets... a lot of competitors simply shot the steel and disregarded the moving targets that would disappear. Gaming at its finest. Personaly I enjoyed the challange of hitting the disappearing targets.

RePete and I went down on Saturday to RO and support Steve and his crew. We had a great day even in the rain, we got to meet a lot of great people and have a great time. We also had a great time shooting the match.

I did not have a good match, I knew it was going to be fun when I scored a "D" on the all steel stage and I got a "Mike" on the Chrono stage. :)

Weather: Rain... and lots of it, it went from a torrential downpour to the occasional bits of sunshine on Sunday. It rained all day Friday adn Saturday. Some ranges were submerged in about a foot of water and some shooters even tried their luck at fishing. Some ranges were full of slimey thick mud. Getting to range one was an experience in itself. Some shooters decided not to shoot the match, too bad for them, they missed a great time.

EOHC and RePete do not mix... Twice in two outings RePete had his front shear off and he finished the match with patches for a front site.

P.S. Dan

I would have posted earlier but... In-Laws showed up!

Just luring the competition into a false sense of security, in anticipation of the provincials and the nationals, hehe :D

But seriously, all the winners did very well. The match was a lot of fun, I didn't mind the weather at all. Running through 10" of water, fault lines under water, searching for underwater lost mag (Glock mags do not float...) - all interesting new elements to ipsc, hehe.

I'm speechless. At 250 rounds and 7 stages, the average number of rounds per stage is 35+, higher than the 32 maximum set under IPSC rules for level III matches. Am I missing something?

Well the part of the match I shot was great.

I did help to build the match as well as work it the friday saturday and sunday.
Had alot of fun and saw some great shooting.

(worked stage 1-2 on the rifle range)

No HungryBeagle, it was just me, I was going by the match description that they said approx 250 rounds.

For the guys who had re-shoots... yup ... lucky boogers... they got more shooting in. :p

Awesome time!!

The 197 rounds (plus lots more used up on disappearing targets and steel) were challenging and very well laid out. No stage was 'obvious' in terms of how to shoot it, there was alot of running, alot of steel and lots of surprises!

No one has mentioned the cool slider at the end of stage 5. You shot at a popper, and this big frame that was hidden slid across an aircraft cable with only a few seconds to shoot at 4 targets with a penalty target in between!!

Sunday after the match wrapped up with an awesome pig roast dinner and awards.

Thanks again to all the organizers and volunteers.

P.S. Is it wrong to wash Glock mags in puddles after they drop in deep mud? I got some laughs for my cleaning technique.....:p

Thanks for the clarification, guys.

I like to put on Level III matches whenever possible, and I recall a time when matches were denied even consideration for Level III if they didn't meet the 3:2:1 ratio...

I have to say, that was a extemley fun match to shoot. :) :)
I was excited after each stage & wanted to keep shoot'n !

Though, it was a poor performance on my part as well, this time around :(
(for my class level "A") I shot a bit on the slow side on some stages & dropped more points than usual, a few "mikes". the 16 steel stage, was not my best. usually, I'm pretty good on steel stages.

I agree w/ Pops on the dissapearing targets, You gotta go for them, or where's the spirit of "Deligentia - Vis - Celerites "
Real men shot at them :p :p
I can gladly say I got my 8 hits on the slider
& 4 A's on the turning ones  :D

Oh, Omen, re: stage 6,you bragged to Robin about beating his 20.56 time with your 17.69 time, but, you forgot to mention to him that you chose not to shoot at the turning targets. His hit factor of 6.7121 was still higher than yours of 5.4268 ;) :p

It was great to see Pops, Tritium, Repete, Quigley & all you guys again.
Look forward seeing ya'll again.

Despite the weather, it was a great match. Thanks again to all the organizers & helpers. Job well done

He started it, hehe...

Re drop turners: it's all relative to others in your division. I've seen those in 3 matches now - in the first one, I tried shooting at them, and picking up I think 4 points for about 2.5s work of waiting and effort - did not come at the top of the stage. So, in the next 2 matches, I ignored the drop turners, and won the stages. It's a close call, but everyone needs to do what they think will give them the best advantage, against their competition. I doubt very much I would get 4 As, and then there is the extra time of swinging back and forth, expecially trying to go back to a plate - just not worth it, for me. Shot the two plates and started running, the stationary target on the go on the other side of the fault line, and that was it... ;) It worked best for me. YMMV.

Heres a question, if the acuator plate is hit and knocked down then no failure to engage the paper turning target is accessed which I am assuming is correct.

What if the acutator is engaged and not knocked down and the competitor moves on. What happens as far as scoring goes?

Rule 9.9.3 says it has to be activated, I think I found my answer.
