Hi there,

I am new to this community and brand new to hunting. I have been thinking about hunting for a number of years now and have finally gone through all the steps to be able to make it happen. I am heading off on my first hunting trip in a couple of weeks (deer) and am very curious how it is going to turn out. I figure I have been eating meat my whole life so I should probably at least once see what it is like to be on the sharp end.

Good for you!

I did the same thing you just described last year.
I learned several things which I am sure you will discover in your travels, here are a few:

Good hunting buddies will teach you more than any magazines or other sources.

Patience is a virtue, as is learning how not to walk like a human and spook deer.

No maps can duplicate good scouting of the area you are hunting.

Big bucks don't get that way by being stupid! (although the rut does make them a bit more oblivious).

Areas that have lots of hunters (pressure) will force deer to move either at night or to a new location with less pressure.

My dad hunted a ton until he was about 25 and then his business got in the way. He was and still is the best mentor for me when it comes to hunting and shooting. Everything from tree stand locations, tracking, ground blinds, shooting, accuracy etc etc. I was in my second week on the Thursday with an unfilled buck tag when lo and behold one finally ran across my sights at about 70 yards. Be patient, be patient and most of all be patient :D o ya have fun while your out there!
 
Enjoy it. I'm still new to hunting and have had more failures than successes. But I have learned so much just by being "out there". And if you can find some folks to hunt with that you truly get along with, the stories that are being made while you hunt are priceless.

I definitely will post how it goes. I am mostly looking forward to a good few days in the woods with the hopes of being successful in the hunt. If it doesn't work out - I still have until mid December in Region 2. Our hunt is in 3-29 but I don't know much about the area. I have looked on google earth and I know roughly what it looks like from driving through the Kamloops area. Still, it should be exciting and I am hoping it will be a great experience.

Enjoy getting outdoors and soak up the scenery. If you have the opportunity to take a shot and fill a tag - even better!

For me it got to a certain point where it didn't really matter if I came back with something or not, I enjoyed the hell out of being outdoors like I had been for the past week and a half. You're going to have an awesome time regardless!

Patience and Take in the Sights,

I just came back from Pheasant hunting and enjoyed every minute of it, seeing other animals fox,coyotes,rabit,deer and antelope and being 10 feet way from deer u push up out of the weeds, awsome. Enjoy!!:wave:
