"So...your hunting in the middle of nowhere......

Happened to a friend and they only realized it when they were 2 hours away from home with a 7mm-08, so they drove like they were in NASCAR home, picked up the rounds drove like hell to get to their stands, but along the way they got fined for speeding $168 here. They made to their stand in one piece and 5 minutes later shot a 14 point buck that was 262lbs dressed. The lucky bastards

I know a guy who jumped out of his buddies truck as they were on some back roads with his rifle to chase after a bear, and then came face to face with said Bear off in the bush only to discover that he had left the rifles ammo on the seat of the truck...DOH!
Exit stage left...:D

Had a buddy stop at Canadian Tire to get a pair of felt pak rubber boots on the way north Moose hunting. We got way back in the bush and he took off his runners to put on the boots... two left boots in the box!
I guess he shoulda tried them on before he bought them.
I forgot my crossbow in the bush once while dragging a deer out... it was still there the next day.
The whole argument about forgetting mags or ammo is kind of stupid.... anyone who hunts learns early not to forget important kit items.
I will never own a 30-06.... they are stupid.

I once got out at the last stand of a winter muzzel loader push, I saw the stand built about 10 feet in between three cedars....but where the hell are the steps??? I radio the pusher (owner of property) and ask how in the hell my 240 lb fat ass with fanny pack and gun is gonna get into that stand. He simply said that it was built years ago and not for me....climb up! Well I'm glad that wasn't on video....I eventually got up and stable, shot one of two does that busted out and then on my way down just about broke my friggin neck because I broke the two main limbs that were used to get in. Now I carry screw in pegs during the stand hunts.

So let me get this straigth- I am goign to get on a horse, ride for a day and a half into the bush, arrive at base camp, realize I forogt my ammo and say "s**t! I shoudl have brought a 30-06"

Yea, now also let me get this straight !
Do we/you actually decide on what caliber hunting rifle to buy, based on what caliber that we/you can buy at the "Local Hillbilly Store" incase we/you forget to bring along the ammo on a hunting trip
If you cannot remember to bring along the ammo,-----you have other problems that should be attended too first
I cannot understand that some people would actually buy a rifle based upon the availability of ammo
That has about the same reasoning as forgetting to bring along your girlfriend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once I borrowed a Lee-Enfield from a friend. (I'd never used one before) Saturday morning I headed to the range 150 kilometers from here. When I arrived I noticed that I was so excited that I put the wrong gun cases into the trunk, and the Enfield was still in my wardrobe at home. I was so pissed off, that I bought an Enfield on the spot form a guy who happen to have one for sale, and my wife didn't dare protest against it. :) So sometimes it's OK to forget things.

I have a buddy that went whitetail hunting about 4.5 hours from home and forgot to take his ammo.He spent half of opening day driving to every little hick town before he found a box of .300 win. mag.He now takes a 270 as a spare.

It can happen if you are taking a plane. My cousin took at trip up north, the airline wanted the rifle and ammo in seperate locked cases. The rifle arrived but the ammo box never did show up (also contained hunting knife). He happened to be shooting a 338 win/mag and he was able to get the ammo up there, can't remember if he got it from the outfitter or store, doesn't really matter though as he was able to get it.

Once while hunting with my brother (we both had the same ttype of fanny pack) I grabbed his (7mm08) and he grabbed mine (308).
We both carry an extra couple of rounds on our slings so we both had two bullets.

Brother in law had a canoe tip over while out hunting with a buddy and they lost a lot of gear, including I think a couple of 22's, in a similiar situation if you lost your ammo it might be easier to get replacement ammo locally.

However to be honest I never have worried about the caliber of my rifle and how easy ammo is to get for it. However I don't handload so I tend to stay away from calibers that I feel may become obsolete in the near future because we all know what that does for ammo prices

A friends brother accompanied us on a hunt several years ago.We drove out to the field that we were going to hunt and he discovered that he had lost his detachable magazine, which was the only ammunition that he had brought with him.We drove the 10 minutes back to the house and when he got out to check in the house,he discovered that he had been sitting on the magazine all along.Of course this same person had an entire herd of elk walk by within 50 yards of him while he tried to get his rifle off of his shoulder and got his sling caught in his clothing. He never did get a shot at anything on the hunt although he had several chances. That was the first and last time that he hunted with us.

Wow Stubblejumper, you sound like a very demanding guy to hunt with!

Not really, but this fellow really did make myself and the other guys very nervous, and was very lazy as well.Just not the kind of person that we want to hunt with.

No, never happened to me, although I went to a bar in Kamloops then decided we all would go hunting, and took only my cowboy boots, (no, I'm not a cowboy) couldnt' walk at all, in the snow, but had a good time in camp cooking and sampling "the spirits of nature", what the heck, Clearwater is beautiful anyways.

I used to like you. ;)

I think I've agreed with pretty much all of your other 7965 posts, but not so much with this one.
I hate to admit this but the 30-06 is a great caliber.... I only poke fun at it because the anti Short Mag Crowd uses it as their main Dumbass argument all the time.
Don't hate me for being green.;)
