Just recently picked up a SOCOM 2 and got to wondering. Would permanently pinning a longer flash hider to the barrel, meeting the coveted 18" length mark render the firearm non-restricted.

The work would be done by a qualified Smith and then verified.

SEI currently manufactures breaks pushing 4" (3.4" to be exact) which would definantely surpass the 18" mark.

I'm going to call the CFC tomorrow and ask them. Just figured I'd give the night owls something to think about.

Thanks!

has to have continuous rifling for it to count.

100% correct

Why not install a 18.5" barrel (minimum nonrestricted length)
A new take off chinese barrel would be perfect. US studies have shown the norc barrels to be on par with usgi. Cheap and easy solution.

This is true.

However I may just end getting an 18.5" Norc and keep the SOCOM as is.

Back in the day but no more. I hated having M1's permanently altered in this way to make them nonrest. I just installed the longer barrel on mine but those barrels are no longer available in Canada.

Mr.Crash

These barrels you speak of, can you elaborate?

Haha Socom 2 I used to play that back in like 2003 on my ps2, back when I worked at a #### company (long story)

But seriously, call Frank at Marstar and ask if he has an m305 barrel kicking around. He did when I called. I'm certain with all these people putting krieger's on their guns that there will be some norinco barrels floating around.
