Socom Resurrection

Unfortunately for the SOCOM, I cannot get anything less than 2-3 inch groups at a 100. Maybe, need to reload and tune it with the SOCOM's I have. Though, I am trying my best to find some Hornady TAP Ammo, they seem to group well for the gun writers trying the SOCOM's.

Nice rifles H20 Man, also thanks for recommending the SOCOM Kit from Smith Enterprise, you emailed this to me when it first came out, I emailed Smith Ent. on it but was asked to go through Brownells. This SOCOM kit should be a good upgrade on the rifles I have.

Thanks and you're welcome!

I look forward to hearing about your experience with SEI's SOCOM kit.

Well I gotta tell you ..........they all look great, but I like the stock on yours the best. I've been looking into the TROY setup myself. You just made up my mind.

Jae

Echo Charlie,

Did your Jae improve the performance of your M14/M1A, or was it just expensive with no help to performance?

Expensive, it was. Improvement? Hmmm..., i think if anyone wants to improve on the M14/M1A, they should read the book M14 Owners Guide and Match Conditioning Instructions by Scott Duff. This is the gist of my builds and what is hidden behind the stocks. It's a really good read and very informative. Follow it and you'll be happy on the results.

Rifles for Sale

want to sell any of those rifles?

I was thinking of letting go my SAGE/ Springfield M1A combo. This SAGE is the original stock and is not the Chopmod version. But I am still debating. I am actualy trying to build an AR15 just to get my mind off from selling this rifle. I am sure, I'll regret selling it down the road, which usually happens.:)

EC, Do you have another SAGE/ Springfield M1A combo that is not pictured?
The NAVY gray SAGE stock pictured on page one is the shorter Chop Mod
stock with an 11.25" top rail. The top rail on the original EBR is 13.00" in length.

Yes H20 MAN. I still have one that is not with the pictures. When I was building the first one I have, I was going after the Navy Gray Sage, cannot seem to find one and was really "rare" to even have been discussed when I asked around. Lucky for those who got it. I actually have 3 SAGE'd M1A's. However, one was sold a long time ago. Hence, the experience of regret on my part. The addiction to the M1A platform is probably due to the fact that it is a rifle that just keeps working and new things come up to keep it alive. Eventually, I will have 1 that will just be in a wood stock and all original, probably untouched and unfired. Just for nostalgia.:)

The Original Long SAGE/M1A not pictured will be again be set up as soon as I see in the mail the stripper clip guide mount. Just need to find the Original Kydex Handguard, I cannot find one here and SAGE Intl. does not want to entertain my emails to them despite going through the necessary legal paper work to Import just a piece of plastic. Without the handguard the rifle still looks naked!:D

echo charlie,

Call the Shooting Edge and see if they have some Hornady TAP in stock in .308 I have seen Hornady there and I have seen TAP, but I only clearly remember it for .223.

You know... not to put a bug in your ear or anything... you could make some decent coin building those little bastards and selling them...

Maple Leaf Pilgrim,
I will try the Shooting Edge for the TAP Ammo. Thanks. Most of the gun writers seem to have a good group from using this ammo on the SOCOM/s, unless they are bs'ing. I'll find out soon enough. As for building them and selling them off, that might be good but again, these rifles are a study and learning experience. But, I am very happy that our fellow CGN'rs have given me some praise. It makes building the rifles well worth it.

Thanks again. And thanks to all who have written and gave this thread a new life.:)
