Socom18 vs Basset scope mount WTF

So I just picked up a Socom18 and a basset scope mount ... So I'm installing the mount as prescribed, but the mounting screw is clearly going too far into the receiver and its interfering with the bolt moving backwards. Essentially the bolt will slide back maybe half an inch and then it's blocked by the screw.

Looking for any suggestions or fixes.
Thanks.

it's more common than you would think when mounting scope mounts to these rifles (not just norincos either)

file the screw down until it is installs flush to the lug raceway.

Thanks for the tip... Would adding a spacer or washer help? Just trying to avoid cocking up the threads.

Yep, common with that type of mount as already stated. If you have access to a grinder, that would be the best solution. Maybe a thick washer and loctite may also work depending on how far inside the receiver the screw protrudes. When I used that style of mount, I remember I took off a fair bit of the screw, almost 1/8 inch if I remember correctly. Used a bench grinder and just chamfered the threads a bit, no issues with it threading in after.

Thanks I'll give it a try.

I don't know what the thread pitch is, but if you have a nut you can screw onto the bolt before you grind it down when you take the nut off after it has been shortened it will clean up the threads on the end.

grinders and stuff work.
you may have a hard time finding a nut to thread on as well.
dremel with a coarse sanding drum will help shorten it nicely and for doctoring up the threads use a small triangular needle file.
I've found a good file with the bolt in a vice of sorts is just as effective, then chased with the needle file
