hello, I need a soft recoil load for .40S&W Major.

Due to old arm injury cannot handle snappy .40 recoil....need something softer :)

what powder/bullet weight would be suitable for this application (IPSC Standard, 5" STI)

thanks
K

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I haven't shot one of those, but I have found that the gun makes a difference. I'm currently loading 6.8gr of 800x over a 180gr cam pro TC. Doesn't seem snappy to me.

Rule of thumb for non compensated guns is fastest burning powder with heaviest bullet.
Seems simple, but some of the faster powders will go overpressure in 40 at major so you have to find the right balance.

Softest powder / bullet combo for 40 major out of my Apeiro was 180grs with Vhit N320, but "soft" is relative as major still kicks.

That's what I use in my Apeiro. My Frontier plated 180gr bullets at OAL of 1.165 with 5.1gr of N320 and CCI small rifle primers. I get a PF of about 176.

If you check on the Enos forum there are a lot of guys shooting WST for major. Major in the States is less than here and you end up over the published max load to make major. I have tried it and tried 231 and they didn't seem much different.
Some guys swear by Clays. I was not comfortable trying it.
I settled on WST with lead bullets and plated and 231 for jacketed.
I never tried 320.
Overall length is critical for faster powders. Bullet setback can ruin your day.

BINGO!!!!! Found......180 Plated, CCI SPP, 4.9gr of TG at 1.175 COAL......soft recoil, more like PUSH....would say close to 124gr 9mm at 135PF ;)
176PF ......

almost exactly my load, im 5.0gr TG. doesn't have nearly the recoil I was expecting when switching from 9mm minor. I'll prob play with some 200gr bullets after nationals
