Anyone recommend a soft shooting b gun? I realize semi autos would probably be easier recoil wise, but any input is appreciated. I would be shooting light loads as well. Was looking at the beretta sp1 sporting, xt trap etc

Weight and fit are your friend. One O/U can feel like heaven to one person and like hell to another.
Recoil pads and beretta kickoff like systems can help.

If the gun doesn't have a factory system like the Beretta Kick-Off, A good recoil pad like the Kick-Eze or Limbsaver, combined with a shooting vest with a built in recoil pad, can make any O/U into a pussycat!!

Anything other than a Ruger Red Label. Something about them seems to kick more than anything else I've tried.

Fit really is the big key.

Ammo is just as important (if not more) than the gun.

My wife uses super light reduced target loads and they barely kick, even in her lighter O/U.

Stock fit is the main thing. You can look at a custom wood stock or more likely a Precision Fit Stock is the most cost effective way to go. The PFS won't work for everyone, but will for a significant percentage of the shooters.

Soft ammo is great, but pricey. The misses shoots a 20ga; she tried a 725 feather with AA Low Recoil loads and liked it, however my 1oz 1180 Supertargets were uncomfortable. Sadly the AA Low Recoil loads are $30/flat more than her 20ga shells or my Supertargets ($95 vs $65)

If recoil is an issue, 20ga is a very good solution.

Why not try 3/4 oz. loads? there are lots of recipes out there and they are very nice to shoot. Also 3/4 oz. 20 ga.

I have a damaged shoulder, so no heavy recoil for me.
I use a Beretta 12ga O/U with a light shell 24gr Kent 8 1/2 for all clays shooting,this combination works for me, if I don't find this shell , I go semi-auto.For duck hunting I always use a Semi-auto.
If you want to avoid heavy recoil , basically you have to use a heavy shotgun and a light load or go semi-auto.

My Browning XT with a Kick-eez pad is an easy shooting gun. The weight of the gun, good fit and soft kick-eez pad, 1/18 target loads feel like a house fly bumping into you. No discomfort or any indication that I've been shooting after 150rds. My 20ga Cynergy kicks more, lighter gun, plastic butt plate.. more ouch.

Any thoughts on the beretta sv10 trap w/ kickoff?

Can't say I've shot the trap model but I have shot the Prevail Sporting w/KO and it is the softest shooting O/U I have tried in 12ga. Takes the edge off of the recoil. Tried it with heavy target and field loads, fast recovery for the second shot.

Any heavy o/u shotgun primarily design for shooting sports will help you tame recoil easily... A good fit will help you distribute the recoil efficiently; thus same recoil will be felt less compared to a badly fitted shotgun...

The two shotguns with the least amount of recoil now are the DT11 (half the recoil of my old DT10L) and the 692. Both have similar but not quite barrel design that reduces substantially recoil. Besides both will outlast your life time!
