Softpoints for M14 & M1 Garand Use

Has anyone here used softpoint rounds in their M14 and Garand?

I would like to use both for hunting and want to know how well those rifles feed softpoint rounds e.g. Winchester Power Point, Remington Core-Lokt Pointed Soft Point, etc.

I've used Federal Power Shok (the cheap stuff) 150's in my M14 and M1, no problems. Plastic tipped bullets are reccomended by some (Fulton Armory etc), as lead tipped bullets may have particles of lead peel off them and get into the action; in theory. Keeping your rifle clean should solve this potential problem however. I haven't had problems with softpoints myself, but when I went out to get stocked up on bullets for reloading, I did actually get plastic tipped Hornady SST's (165's) and Nosler Accubonds (165's).

Mine digests Winchester 150 grain Power Points without a hitch.

Soft points no problem. Just stay away from hollowpoints as they always hang up on feeding....Bob

Regular PSP's work just fine. So do the old Silvertips. 168 grain HPBT's work fine too.
