It really sounds like the person you sold the rifle to doesn't have much experience with rifles.

I really like the previous suggestion to have another CGN member in the buyer's area check it out and see what the deal is. I'd say its 99.9% chance that either the guy can't shoot or he bubba'd the rifle somehow. An experienced shooter would get to the bottom of this pretty fast. I know I would be willing to help out if this was in my area.

I'm in the GTA and could take a look at it if the buyer is agreable to it.

Being a takedown model, would it have anything to do with the adjustment that affects the tightness of the rifles lockup?

As a 10/22 T/D owner myself, I have experienced this first-hand and strongly suspect this. Its VERY important that the barrel tension screw is TIGHT or any hold on the front half of the stock will affect accuracy.

Why do people presume that there is a "return policy" on a private sale of a used firearm or any item for that matter? This doesn't make sense to me. If the rifle was working when you sold it then I say you(the seller) are off the hook. Sounds like a case of buyers remorse, or he modified it and is now looking to get his money back after he broke it, or he simply had unreal expectations of its performance. My opinion...

It doesn't appear you have done anything wrong, and I'd agree with the majority that there isn't warantee on EE, no refunds unless you sent him something different than advertised, and who knows what his idea of accurate is, and what sort of skill he has.

One concern is a negative feedback from the EE transaction, not sure what sort of recourse there is if he decides to go that route.

so if you take the rifle back and its buggered up then what. return his money and face a loss. refuse to return all his money a disaster. it was operating fine when sent. you owe hime nothing after all his attemts at mods.

May have been said but my wives 10/22 shot great then all of a sudden lost accuracy. One type of ammo i had that functions well in all .22s i have caused a lead build up in the barrel that you would have to see to believe. I changed ammo and cleaned it and back to the races

so you sold it on the alberta outdoorsman forum and were accurate with your description ( I assume) and the guy modded it and now cant get it to shoot. Sounds like its his problem now....if he gets butthurt and gives you a negative rating, well in the end who really cares? As long as you didn't knowingly defraud him theres nothing he can do about it. maybe he should try putting back to stock form and get a baseline with a bunch of ammo and irons

So I have heard back from him, he switched the stock and used a vortex scope, it had never had a scope on it before so I'm worried about the rail from factory, he tried a few different types of ammo and had tried a bore sighter and iron sights.
Asked if he tried adjusting the tension ring. He says he tried it off a rest and tried cleaning it. Had a fellow with him that is more familiar with rifles also.
I had it posted on this forum and a local outdoors one too and it sold on the other one so I am not sure if he is on here also or not.
His explanation of the groups is a bit hard for me to understand, but it sounds like he was using a 3 inch target and tried a 16x16" piece if cardboard and was getting some fliers that were not even hitting that at 25m

Asked him how I can resolve it to his liking and I'll go from there.

did you either regrip the handles or use an aftermarket non affiliated golf bag? Also ### you carry the golf bag or put it in the back of a cart to be jostled around. If yes to any of these, than no, it's your fault.

Sounds like a weasel to me - tell him to ship it back at his expense and you refund the original $$. If he can't live with that - tough noogies... I'm betting he'll want an "adjustment" on the purchase price. If you buy used at a used price that's the chances you take. Win some ... loose some.
