Does anybody know if it's okay to silver solder the bayonet lug on a Bess? A re-enactor friend has one that was soft soldered on to a kit Bess and it's too easy to knock off. Silver solder takes a lot more heat , will this harm the barrel on a low pressure black powder musket?

I just did one a couple of days ago and used silver solder. The originals were brazed. I also touched a piece of barrel from a modern Indian bess to the grinder; appears to be very low carbon content, almost none. Significants is just that you need 0.3% carbon or more for heat treating and potential brittleness.
