soldering on my sight ramp ..... Photo added

Well all the knowledge and help on this site is great! BC rider; I think you are correct in that my site is too tight in the dovetail. It is a skinner sight and they seem come 'oversized' and I have already filed it down but will pay more attention to this. I have a fair bit of soldering experience and only farmed the above job out to a gunsmith as I lacked the correct solder and flux. I sure hope I can do a better job!!

Doesn't take a great deal of solder, but it needs to be silver solder and the bluing or any other finish removed first.

How many have you done sunray?

Soft solder is just fine for ramps and sights... it needs to be done properly.

If you can't use a sight pusher, support the side of the ramp so all the force isn't torquing on the solder joint.

Exactly. Buddy and I soldered a front ramp onto a 9.3X62 barrel some time ago.

Sparkling clean metal, both surfaces tinned using 430º F solder and liquid flux, held in position using tightly twisted wire, then sweated together and fed a bit more solder... worked perfectly. Has never budged.

Ted
