Soldier Needs Holster

My bro in law is going to Afganastan this fall and he is trying to find a holster to mount on his vest(chest rig) or a sholder holster. What works well with the issue BHP and issue vest? Oh yea it has to be a decent price. All your imput is appreciated
1911 holsters usually work with the BHP.

Chest rig mounted Well You draw it and sweep yourself with a loaded pistol. KevinB talked about this before. Also if you don't need to wear your vest gonna have to find a place to put the pistol in being cannot leave just a pistol in a vest...What good is it then.

Shoulder holster are great being well you don't need to wear pants/shorts with belts, can wear running shorts etc and throw it over anything. Great for on base, But not great for a combat holster. If you hit the button by mistake and your pistol could fall out, I've seen that a lot. Also If it is to be loaded, not great walking around laz'ing people behind you, or when you draw sweep yourself with a loaded pistol. Then again should not have a mag on it on base anyways. Also when you have body armour, Plates, Tac Vest on your gonna find that arm restriction is maxed and might not even able to grab your pistol out of the shoulder holster.

Thigh Rig is your best bet. 6004 or the Serpa.

As a Driver I could not wear my vest while driving being the tight spot I had. SO I had my pistol on a Thigh Rig, TAC Vest on a Quick Release buckle behind my seat next to my C8.

IMHO, Safariland. Stay away from all systems that will mount your secondary weapon to your 2nd line. Dropleg is the only way to go for propper transition and retention. Unless you're operating as a driver in a softskin.....then maybe crossdraw is ok.

Not even good as a driver.... Soft skin your gonna be wearing your vest anyways. Armored LAV3, RG31 not gonna wear a vest at all.
Wont see a soft skin outside the wire, G wagons are in base only now....

I'm pretty sure he can get a chest rig issued to him. Our guys are wearing Bianca thigh & chest rigs while doing Roto trg here at home.

I don't see the need to go out and buy one.

thanks for the info RobertMcC my bil is a driver also, he has a hard time accessing his bhp in the issue drop leg rig(plus the fact that it often falls out on him) so he was thinking about a chest rig. Thank to your info he now realizes that wont work because he wont be wearing the vest while driveing so now he is thinking about a quality drop leg for outside of the lav and some sort of make shift chest rig for inside the lav. So what drop leg rig is best for the issue bhp?

Well since hes a driver hes gonna be hatches down so well he ain't gonna use nothing really. Drivers barely dismount. So you won't be really needing to use his pistol... Drop Leg Sarfariland 6004 is what I've used.

The CF does issue a holster but it's the Bianchi one and it is junk for what we need over there. The drop leg attachment is to stiff for comfortable movement. He can pick a holster up at one of the shops on the boardwalk in KAF if he doesn't get one before. Get one that has good leg straps for proper retention and use a lanyard. Both my drivers on the 2 RCR 05/06 Coy tour and 07 BG rotos over there did on occasion dismount and conduct foot patrols with the rest of us to give other guys a break. Just because he goes over as a driver doesn't mean he will stay in the hatch all the time.
