Solid 10/22 AR-Style Receiver? (And Other Chassis Options)

I really like the idea of a 10/22 AR receiver... Too bad I already ordered all my components. Keep us posted on how this plays out, I think there would be a lot of interest in this.
And once I assemble mine I'll throw a few pics up.

Thanks for the support... I'll keep everyone updated if I hear anything. I mentioned that I'd be open to a one-time run of a few receivers, if that was possible. If we got a quote for something like $5000 for ten units, it might be worth considering... $500 for a receiver is steep, but if it works with stock 10/22 internals, with Dlask's reputation, and will take AR parts straight out of the box, then I think it'd be a real contender (at least for those of us who want that sort of thing). It's not the cheapest method of building a 10/22, but I think it offers some nice benefits over the current chassis-over-receiver options, and at that price it's not much more expensive than buying a Dlask receiver and an aftermarket chassis separately.

However... I've been looking at the Nordic chassis again, and I'm starting to consider picking one up anyway. If I cut the rail off the top, cleaned up the surface, and mounted a standard rail, I could still get the "monolithic" look and probably have it line up nicely with any other AR handgrip and rail. Only issue is that the buffer tube mounts so high up, so rear access to the rail (or even front access, given the design) might be difficult without modifications to the rest of the chassis. Plus, that might put any sights way too low to use without risers. I'd have to figure out some way to mount the buffer tube down lower as well... I'm sure someone must make an AR adapter that'll mount to the chassis and offset the stock lower.

If you are considering the NC Chassis you might save a few bucks getting a SR 22. I am working on the same build and I am regretting not getting the SR 22.
Your calculations didn't include a barrel which I am sure you would want to replace. With an SR 22 you get the threaded barrel and everything including a NC chassis.

Alright, well I caved and bought the RB Precision Evolution stock that was listed in the EE... I think I would've preferred the second generation (since that one seems to take AR handguards), but I'm stoked to get this one in my hands. To me, it's the best of all worlds... Takes AR stocks and grips, is made out of a solid piece of aluminium, has an open top (so I can mount optics directly to the receiver), and just looks pretty damn cool. Plus, it's already got the ACE stock and Hogue grip, which is exactly what I would've done, so no complaints there. Given how much it would've cost for me to buy the parts separately, I'm pretty happy. Now all I gotta do is wait for the 10/22's to come in...

Memo: You're absolutely right... I was just considering the "outright" costs of doing this, although at that point it probably would've been better to get the SR. However, now that I'm getting the RBP stock, I'll actually end up spending about the same as a new SR-22 anyway, including taxes. I'll have to make do with an 18" barrel for the time being, but I've been given the go-ahead to build an SBR, so I'll probably contact Mystic Precision a few months down the road and get a short SS barrel made up. The plan is to (eventually) build a completely new rifle using aftermarket parts, and then reassemble the original 10/22 and use that as a basis for another build.

I'm so excited, I feel like a little schoolgirl... w:h:

My RBP Evolution stock arrived today... Looks and feels great. Nice and solid, a little heavy, but not terrible. I'll see how it feels with the rifle in it... I'll be starting out with the 18" barrel, so it might be a little front-heavy, but if that's the case then I may just put a balloon with some sand into the end of the stock to counterbalance it. I'll need to get the rifle first though... I put the deposit down for one on Monday, and some of the other models are already trickling in to shops in Canada, so hopefully it won't be too long of a wait.

One thing I noticed was that the stock is quite high up... I haven't fully assembled it yet (I should really be studying for an exam), but my eyes end up higher over the top plate (over the barrel) than I originally anticipated. I'll have to see how it feels with a sight mounted, but I may need to either make up a riser or use something like the AR carry handle to get the sight at the proper height.
