any experience out there producing solid copper buck or any other non-toxic alloys? have they every been for sale? I know the ballistics would be inferior due to lower mass...dont need to explain that to me. I'm currently being treated for lead-poisoning and i'm also an active shotgun hunter so i guess you could say i have some extra incentive.

The only buckshot I'm aware of that was non toxic is the Tungsten based stuff Remington loads or at least that they did load at one time. I have no personal experience with it. I have shot geese with tungsten-iron bird shot, and that stuff is amazing. Killed several geese stone dead in the air with #6 shot at 60 yards. Tight patterns and deep penetration. If the heavy weight of tungsten buckshot acts similar to the birdshot, I believe it would be a big step up in penetration. Not sure how that would translate into killing power for deer.

I recall seeing that tungsten buckshot years ago. Even back then it was very expensive. Something like $24/5. If the pellets themselves were available that would be fantastic.

would bulk ball bearing be heavy enough to work? sizes aroud 1/4 can be find easy if not, I would check at non toxic solder stuff and cast

Some kind of industrial steel balls like those for bearings would be the best bet imho. They'll be expensive due to much higher QC on bearing balls than there is on buckshot.

You can contact abbot ball (www.abbottball.com) as they make balls for everything in every size, from piercing jewelries to ball bearings, and they can make balls from just about any material you can imagine. Some would be just as dense as lead or even more (tungsten carbide) but will cost an arm and a leg. You could probably get steel balls for not too expensive, but they might request that you import a large quantity. If you're not too picky on material and size, they might make an overrun for you. Anyway you'll only know if you contact them. They have forms to contact them on their website.

I'm not aware of a company like abbot ball in canada but it might exists.

Non toxic solder material like the one used to solder drinkable water pipes is expensive per pound.

I have had lead issues, too, but I don't see much risk with shooting lead buckshot, unless you are indoors... or get shot.

What lead exposure do you see?

If there is an airborne risk, then converting the buckshot to a wax slug would encapsulate the shot, until it hit something.

some decent ideas. i don't know how i got exposed - i don't think it was from firearms. i suspect its over a decade of the same well water (even though the tests come back passing).
I've never seen that hevi-shot buck for sale anywhere but that would be the easiest and cheapest route it looks like -without having to do big expensive shot orders....
i'll follow some of those leads....
