Solid (performing) subsonics?

I have liked the PMC Subsonic LR HP best of all. It was accurate and effective. Shame it is out of production. I managed to scrounge up about 3 bricks, and I think I have 800 rounds left. Drat! Regards, Eagleye.

I love CB's, but I'm looking for a wee bit more power with less noise than a high-vel round....

CCI Standard Velocity@ 1070 fps and 40gr pack a bit more punch and are pretty darn quiet in my rifles and accurate too. Mind you these are also round nose solids.

What application are you wanting subsonics for?

Cheers
Geoff

Thanks...for punching holes in wooden targets (of my own design).

The CCI Standards should suit that purpose nicely then. I can shoot 1/2" groups at 25yds consistantly with them in my Mossberg 146b using the stock peep sites. I haven't tried them at longer distances but with the muzzle velocity being just this side of subsonic I suspect they would do well out to 50yds.

Cheers
Geoff

Lapua SC

I have shot CCI Standard at 50m with my Savage Mk10 and fouind it to be consistant. But i prefer Lapua Super Club which comes in (or goes out) at 1056 f/s.

If you can find them the CCI subsonics seem to work the best quite and they alway expand as they have a large hollow point cavity. Second most accurate would be the Rem sub sonics

I actually really like the Remington subsonics. I have never been a big fan of remington ammunition as generally I find it unreliable, dirty, and innacurate. The remington subs though performed well in a number of my .22's (My Valmet will shoot 1" groups with them at 100 yards).

An overlooked low noise option for lever actions is CCI 22 Short Target. Tough to find but a little more zap than CB longs with better accuracy and only a bit louder (much quieter than CCI or Remington Subsonic). 830 fps and 44 fpe at the muzzle versus 710 fps and 32 fpe for CB Longs. My 39a and 9422 like 'em just fine, and when you fill those tube magazines right up it seems like you'll keep shooting forever.:D

Well, I was at Bass Pro today and I weighed getting a brick of Golden's/Xperts vs. a "mixed basket" of stuff I've yet to shoot...(I know, I know, get both...but $$$ is an issue after feeding the shotgun...:()

I'll tell you how the Rem subsonics pan out (I also bought Yellow Jackets...first time for many things).

I always found the remington subs to cycle well in my 10/22. You get the odd one that doesn't cycle just because they don't have the same power as the high velocity for pushing the bolt back but overall quite well.
