*solved* scope mounts for Husky 648

Beavermeat,
There are very little 246 around, as they only made 227 of them - but there are currently only 4 of them in Canada and only 1 in original shape. Even the 640 and the 1640 in that caliber are far from being common here, as the swedes still use them (and usually, they are more expensive than a regular one). There are a lot of rechambered 146, though, which are pretty much the same as the elusive 246.

The rings above are EAW.

Thread revival (if anyone cares :))

After blowing cash on test fitting various mounts over the past year. I finally figured out how to mount my Kahles Helia 39 S2.

I have to go with claw mounts similar to this set up. But lower.

f:P:

I did some test rigs with zip ties and cardboard... It works. I can cycle the action without hitting my face with the bolt. I can also remove the scope to use irons.

Now, anyone have experience with mounting german claws on the barrel? Proper mount height for a Mauser action and Husqvarna barrel to mount a scope with a 48mm objective bell and 26mm tube? What is the diameter of a 640 barrel?

What did I get myself into. Lol.

You can go with weaver bases which will allow you to see your open sights and Leupold QRW rings that detach easily and return to zero quite well. With this setup you can keep your scope lower and get a good cheek weld when you are shooting.

Nope. Find me 26mm extended Weaver rings.

American mounting systems do not work with vintage European optics.

Beavermeat,
Were on the barrel do you want to solder the ring? Your barrel should be like 27.5mm at the front ring junction and about 26.25mm 2" further.
Then, it's quite hard to tell what the ring height should be without knowing the bases height...

You went into a lot of figuring before you start a lot of work! :D
But after everything will be put together, you'll have a very nice set up.

My barrel measures 27.75mm, oddly. I've been doing some measuring and I got it figured out what I need. Now to find used parts because I'm not buying new ($$$)

I want one, but the rings are too far forward.

I don't mind the "chin-weld", but I'm an adaptable and open minded shooter.

Found exactly what I need for the 648

Paul Jaeger side rail mounts. Much lower then the aluminum Swedish mounts, and they don't cost an arm and a leg to purchase and install.

I haven't given up on claws just yet. I plan on putting them on a 146 after I find the right scope.

Now, to find a Jaeger mount with 26mm rings and a base that will fit a commercial 98 action.

Nice find! And sits lower than the one I had. Where did you find it? [EDIT: I see a recent exchange on the Swedish Civilian & Sporting Arms forum of Gunboards...]

I'd not heard of Jaeger so I did a search. A real old-world craftsman by the look of it. Died in Philadelphia in Feb. 1993 :( Another article here
Here's a detailed set of pics of his side mount on a rifle.

Griffin and Howe side mount is still made, Pachmayer made a Roll over mount in both side and top mount that may work for you. I think New England actually still sells the Jaeger side mount (N.O.S.)

These are very good mounts. You may only need to lap the rings as 0.024" is preety much nothing....
