I have an "as new" condition Steyr-Mannlicher Model L 22-250 Rem. made in 1968. In the past 45 years it has only been fired a couple of times.
Today at the range, firing standard 55 gr. Winchester factory loads, I experienced extremely difficult extraction of the fired cartridge case. Not just a little stiff, it took nearly all my strength to open the bolt and extract the cartridge case. Primer looks a somewhat flattened with some cratering around the primer. I have been taught that these are signs of too much pressure in a handload. I repeated shooting and had the same extraction problems with 10 rounds. But these are factory loads.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there are history of extraction problems or high pressure problems with the combination of this model and this caliber? What are possible solutions?
Thanks.
