Her arm might be broken but her eyes aren't. Vanessa spotted this nice 6-point bull for me this afternoon and I managed to slip a shot through the aspens at right around 600 yards. The 270WSM and 130 grain GMX did the job admirably. Some good eating this winter.

Great shot and nice elk. How"s your Mrs. doing now ? I read your post a while back.

She ended up in surgery and having a bunch of metal put in to hold things in place but she's toughing it out. Hopefully we can get her on an elk or whitetail in the next few weeks.

Holy hell, great shooting! Do you guys use range finders or range the old fashioned way?
My wife is starting to show interest in getting her hunting license, I can only hope we have 1/2 the fun you and your lady are having!

Laser rangefinder. This guy was kind of hidden in the aspens so we ranged the cows in front of him at 579 yards.....he was back a bit further so that's why the 600 guesstimate. I used the 600 yard crosshair and it seemed to work so I guess we were close with our estimation.

Good to hear she is doing well. She will be back at it in no time. Nice for you to have a mate that likes enjoys the same hobby as you.
Congrats to you and Vanessa !

Straight Shooting

Ya that's definitely getting to the outer limits of my gear and my ability but conditions were good, I had an awesome rest and there was absolutely no opportunity to get closer. The jig was up and it was either take the shot quickly or wave good bye to several hundred pounds of delicious meat.

I've killed several animals between 500 and 611 yards with the 270WSM but this was the largest. With the right bullet and proper shot location, it's definitely a pretty versatile cartridge but then again, I guess that could be said of hundreds of cartridges.....lol I'm a big fan of the 270WSM but that likely has as much to do with the fact that mine is in a super accurate rifle than the cartridge itself. Either way, it works for me.

Congrats on a terrific shot and a whole lot of great eating!

Do tine counts on elk differ in some way from deer, or is the photo confusing me? I see a 4x5.

No the tine counts are the same...the angle of the photo just makes it hard to see all the points. I'm actually holding his sixth point on the right antler and they kind of blend together on the left in the photo.
