Just checked the FRT......

The "Famae SG542-1 SA" in 7.62 NATO being imported by Tactical Imports now has a published FRT entry as Non-Restricted.

146047 FAMAE SG542-1 SA Fabrica y Maestranzas del Ejercito (FAMAE)
Rifle Semi-Automatic Numbered

This is in addition to the Famae ERE Elite SG540-1 in 5.56 (FRT 142985), Famae ERE Elite SG542-1 in 7.62 NATO (FRT 143000) and the Famae ERE Elite Tactical SG543-1 in 5.56 (FRT 143001) being imported by ERE and sold by the Calgary Shooting Centre.

Hmmm....I see what you're saying, but....

The fact of the matter is the entire FRT process is BULLSH!T in the first place.
There should be no class distinction for firearms at all. Write and call you MPs!!!!

The only good news I can see is when the Firearms Act is re-written.

Beltfed is correct! So long as the Firearms Act exists as it does now, this will never end. Nothing short of the Firearms Act being rescinded & replaced with common sense legislation that respects the rights of Canadians to own and use firearms responsibly!

Cheers

yep, like being suddenly happy X rifle or handgun hasn't been banned!! the bad news is when you realize you get a happyness feeling induced when an expected reclassification didn't happen!!

Simply started the thread to support a retailer, a member of the gun community, who has brought in a gun for us to enjoy during the fight we are all in.

Congratulations Tactical Imports and anyone waiting for one of these from them.

Back to the fight.

Type 81, the 22lr Sturmgewher, Interarms Sporter, RPD... And others... All still waiting.

The wait for the Type 81 in particular is really burning my ass. It is quite clearly not an AK, and the RCMP, as incompetent as they are, know this. The firearms act really needs to be re-written.

So, they'll wait until a few thousand ar sold then some bureaucrat will change them to prohibited.

I agree with Beltfed, soulchaser and everyone else here, too. Congratulations to anyone who could cough up the $$ for a "non-restricted" 542, but SANs were non-restricted for almost 13 years and the 858s for at least 7. If I had a $3,000 542 right now I would be stocking up on parts and sleeping with one eye open.

I'm going to get one of these rifles, but I'm also going to buy a parts kit and at least ten magazines at the same time. It'll take some saving of cash, but you're right, the gestapo will come for this thing too, eventually. But, we can't let that scare us. They've already won if we do.

The situation while unfortunate for CZ and Swiss Arms, is not analogous.

Both cases were brought about by sloppy manufacturer's using receivers identical to already prohibited fully automatic firearms.

No such danger exists for the 540.

This was not caused by sloppy manufacturing. Please go review the difference between firearms named as prohibited firearms by name, and firearms prohibited asa converted autos.

The RCMP have changed their definition of converted auto thus reclassifying the 858, and have changed their mind regarding the PE90s lineage, fronm a non restricted firearm to one derived from a named prohib.

Either the RCMP were wrong when they first permitted the import, classification and sale of the guns, or they are wrong now. Either way they screwed up, not the manufactures. The importers couldn't do anything without permission of the RCMP first.
