some idiot at WSS is telling people....

And yeah, Everybody that has shopped at the Edmonton WSS is most likely, still missing Doug Hill at the gun counter. He forgot more than most people know about guns and was great to deal with.

well, if the guy does go out and buy a r25 r15 or whatever, as soon as the CFC transfer gets initiated...REFUND PLEASE.

the WSS staff @ nanaimo aren't dumb, although they keep saying that 762nato in crates are expected to come in any time.

I've dealt with knowledgeable staff and meat puppets there. It seemed like a good place (and time of year) to get a foot in the door to the industry, so I put in an application. Do you think another firearms dealer would be more or less inclined to hire someone with WSS on their resume?

:D

Add to the mix the understandable desire of some sales clerks to make a little commission to buy the odd bucket of KFC to supplement their monotonous Klic, Kam & Kraft Dinner diets on a minimum wage income.

Nobody has a problem with people making minimum wage as long as it's somebody else. ;)

You can't skate around the onus of taking personal responsibility.

If you don't believe what a sales clerk is telling you................check it out using the abundant modern communication resources (phones, internet) and access various sources of information (the clerks boss at the store, other GUNNUTZ, CGN, the gun manufacturers website, 1-800-731-4000, etc.).

I regret to inform you that I do not not work for any sporting goods store. I have however owned and operated a very successful business and have dealt with all types of employees and customers.

OWNED!!! i can see why

to know somehing is one thing to feed people bull is a nother and that seem to happen alot there and the other thing is if you work there you want to sell stuff not tell people there stupid for buying a gun that you dont like i went to buy a mossberg 590 and the guy told me that its a pice of crap i think the US army and LAPD SWAT would have to say bull to that and then he went on to tell me how it cant handle 3"slug or many types of high brass and i just had to laugh as i said i feed mine 3"slugs all day and its fine i was going to get it as a gift for a friend since he liked mine but i didnt get it there just because of some little kid who didnt know what he was talking about

and if that was the type of person you hired shotgun12G i can see why you have to say OWNED!!

Whole Sports Saskatoon is a mixed bag. You do have some knowledgeable and conscientious workers there and then you have those who don't know, don't care, and please don't bother us.
I called twice this season looking for 20 gauge 3" lead shells, was told they had none and had them order them in from Edmonton finally which will take 3 damn weeks. Later that week I went in to pick up something else and I see at least 3 different boxes and brands. They don't have a lot of 20 gauge and they couldn't even bother to look in that very small space.
Don't ask me what I paid for the ones I did get. I'm embarrased to day I did buy them.

The fact remains that if you don't know the answer for 100% fact, minimum wage or not, you should not be giving out legal advice or probably dealing with firearms in general. Thats how accidents happen.

"(I assume you meant "paint")

Your right, that's what you expect. However, it's still your responsibility to ensure you get what you ordered/wanted! If you are so naive to expect that an employee of any establishment is flawless and all knowledgable, you are gravely mistaken! Try a trip to Home Depot some time!!"

I assume you mean "You're right..." and "... all knowledgeable..." :D:D:D

Glass houses, my friend... glass houses...

There's lots of idiots. No big news that one of them works at wss. The internet doesn't make people smarter - it makes better informed idiots.

Problem with people now is that they have been taught that their "feelings" are important. So if they "feel" like something might be true, they think their opinion is just as valid as someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

I've always hated the big chain and conglomerate stores, and tried to support the "Mom & Pop" outfits. This is no different. Everyone I know got oh so horny when Gun Mart (Wholesale) came to Saskatoon. The shops started closing immediately. I didn't mind doing business there for the first while because I had done business with Darrell Dixon for several years. Now they are my last stop. There are only two guys at the gun counter I will speak with. If neither one is there, then I walk away. I've heard so much BS about legalities, load data, bullet performance, and so on. I know these guys aren't making huge dollars, but that doesn't give you the right to fabricate information. One punk there I've heard tell 2 guys on separate occasions that there is a way to get your 12(5) and 12(6) prohib status. The second time was ater I corrected him the first time! There's a way... it involves a time machine and a case of tequila. Bigger is NOT better.

I had meant to tell Mr. Dixon that he should just put everything on vending machines, but he retired before I caught up wth him.

(Who came up with the term 'meat puppets'? lmao)

Not sure about the WSS in your area but there are a few guys here in kamloops that defiantly know there stuff and are quite knowledgeable.

I went to the Kamloops wss and asked for a box of 9mm and the expert started looking near the 7mm mag ammo and the 8mm mauser ammo! At least he could count to 10!! He just didn't know that a 9mm was a handgun.

Actually, the employee in question is giving out information with a real legal aspect to it. I'd say that a letter to WSS's head office, or at least a call to the manager is in order. When I worked at Starbucks, I made crap money but still had to know about food allergies. Guns tend to be more dangerous than muffins, so I'd say that a basic knowledge of the classifications is the least one can expect. Especially as salesment tend to influence buyers' decisions.

*That* is common sense. Long may it rule.

I hear that Stallone is gonna use only muffins to kill the enemy in the next Rambo movie!!

I don't Know if you have purchased any of the Spam type cans of meat lately, but they arn't the affordable "u.i./e.i." dinners any more!

in all fairness, what about 9.3x62 - that could be construed as a 9mm- i've heard it referred to 9mm mauser rifle

There's enough free spam around here that anyone should be able to find all the spam they want. ;)

some of those guys at WSS are real dummies.

last spring i was in there looking to see what they had in 7mm mag with open sights. right away this guy is all over me, telling me there is "no need" and "out dated". i inform him that i am the buyer and thats what im looking for.. i ask what he has in tikka or sako, his response." do you know how small our market is? there is gun range in california that goes through more ammuntion in a week than canada does in a year." ok im thinking. this guy has no interest in selling guns. i thank him and eventually find a nice tikka t3 lite somewhere else.

:50cal: Are they going to be armour-piercing, incendiary, tracer muffins? Because I'm not waiting in line at the theater to see anything less.

No, jethunter is right, Wholesale Sports (and other box retailers like it) isn't a place to learn about guns, that's what gun shops are for. Unfortunate then that gun shops are being crushed by these Leviathons.
