some interesting milsurps in the McSherry spring gun auction

Sure looks like 'em. Can't be originals, though. Very rare, and the suppressor would render it prohib. Plus he's got a pile of them.
I'm surprised at how many lots this one consignee has listed, ~120 rifles is a pretty impressive collection, even by gunnutz standards.

I counted 6 "experiments", but none look exactly like the Delisles in the pictures. IMHO, these are someone building pistol cartridge rifles with big barrel jackets using No.1 actions. Number 141 has a Russian sidemount and PU scope, but a modified magazine. Numbers 156 and 208 have .45ACP magazines, but extra muzzle. Number 163 has a section of Browning M1919 MG barrel jacket! Number 164 looks like a Jungle Carbine butt, and heavily cutaway foreend. Number 165 is closer to a Delisle, with a band on the foreend, but what is that modern scope? Too bad it is an auction and not a consignment. I'd like to give them a closer inspection before buying the "silk purse".

Looks like the "DeLisle" carbines are made up by someone who has a fair workshop and access to various parts. Even a "RARE" Number 4 one.:sok2

There is a full stock 1905 Ross, a German 1888 Commission rifle, and a couple of others there. However, having attended one of the McSherrie Auctions, I would strongly advise that you PERSONALLY inspect anything you intend to bid on. Don't overlook any "Buyers Premium" where you have to pay them to TAKE your money.

Once was enough for me.

There are some wild and wonderful pieces there...
206 is a Ross 1905R sporter broken in half.

Once was enough for me.

Same deal. I never sat through one but put proxy bids on several items for reasonable amounts and got nowhere. Big turnoff was hearing how McSherry does nothing to prevent schill bidding.

I'm not bidding against guys bidding on their own stuff....

Looks like they cleaned out the basement of a really bad basement gunsmith.

I agree. Looks like the typical junk auction blowout sale. These small Canadian gun auctions seem to be the 'good to' place to unload fakes. Not much you can do once the item arrives either, as everything is sold 'as is' and the photos always suck.

I remember at Switzers someone placed an absentee max bid of $175 on some mags. The next highest bidder was something like $10. The absentee bidder wasn't there so Switzer sold him all the mag pouches at $175 despite there being no counter bids to bring the price up that high. What a total scam!!

I wouldn't trust any of these proxibid auctions. Nothing but horror stories, lies, and scams.

McSherry has 2 gun auctions per year. This is about the 5th or 6th year. He has had some pretty nice guns in the past. Of course, like any sale, there is also junk. With sales like these it's up to the buyer to do his/her home work. They can be inspected the day before the sale if you are in the area, which many people aren't. The problem is ,the prices have gotten so high that I don't even bother anymore. You have bidders present, online bidding, telephone bidding and proxy bids. But I guess all auctions are like that now.
There will likely be a lot more guns listed before the sale date comes.
